north dakota youth raccoon sporting event( huge success)

along with the help of the north dakota hunters safety ed . assoc. we pulled off a great event for the kids. we exposed 30 some kids to 22 riffles . they were instructed the proper use, and were supervised at shooting targets that were set up. they realy enjoyed it. then we put 25 kids in the woods lastnight. in three groups. 95% of these kids never had been coon hunting before and about 50% had never shot a rifle. thanks to all involved . we are going to do it again next year...
.. this also was the first event held at out new club house at fort ransom.....

I called the local newspaper and they are going to run an article on our event. Most everyone in the area will have heard about and know where the ND coon hunters lodge is shortly. This can only be good for our standing in the community.

Nice job guys, I am sure the kids will remember that day!
It doesn't hurt to get a little positive publicity and get the word out about hounds and teach the kids something they don't get in school.

We need more stories like this one, great to hear!

Here are the kids after we organized them into groups to go to the woods. We were able to purchase LED headlights for the kids with the funding we obtained from ND Hunter Educators Association. You would have thought it was Christmas Eve as thrilled as the kids were with their gifts. We did not announce the gifts until we were ready to go to the woods. It was hard to keep from choking up a little while watching this unfold.

And yes, every one of those little ones walked to the tree. In fact, the little group got to see five coons treed in a bush. Can you imagine the squeals?

I've been contacted by a second newspaper that wants to run an article on our youth event.

I also heard it's out on facebook.

ND Hunter Educators Association provided two expert firearms instructors to help the kids learn shooting skills. Those guys had the patience of saints. It was a hit.
