I've had alot of luck using promeris. Get it at the vet for around $16 a vile. It will take more than one treatment but it works. Its sold as flea, tick preventative.

Which type of mange?

Sarcoptic Mange can be cured by giving Ivomec orally once daily for 30 days. For a 50-70 lb. dog - use 1cc per day (per my Vet). You can, in addition, bathe the dog in Mycodex or similar shampoo & put Nolvasan on the spots while giving Ivomec.
Demodectic Mange (Red Mange) can be treated by giving 1 cc orally per day also. But Demodectic mange USUALLY is seen on females & will come back each time they come in season - it's considered by most to be a genetic problem. (per my Vet).

The best thing for mange is Prolate or Permethrin which you can get about any feed and farm store or vet. Using ivomec for 30 days in a row is very hard on a dogs kidneys.

Daniel

When my Vet recommends a treatment I consider it safe. Are you a Vet?

I inject the Ivomec under the skin in the back of the neck. I usually only have to use it 1 time for it to clear up.

I had a young pup treated for red mange. Lots all its hair. I eneded up putting her down.
I was told by a vet as well that too much ivermec will ruin vital organs. Dosed right should be no problem. I know she didn't tell me to use ivermec. She was treating the dog with stuff for mange. Several kinds of mange too.
She went on to tell me some of it is carried onto off spring thru breeding as well. Find the carrier and have he/she nuetered I think is what they said.

Not a vet so Im just repeating what I was told. Right or wrong!

All I know is my pup didn't make it and the whole litter had it!

Another not she said that some of the mange will stay on the ground and others can get it.

I am not a vet, just worked for one for two years. There is no "cure" for red mange, it can just be controlled but will break out when the dog gets stressed.

This kind of mange is called Demodectic Mange (Red Mange). It is genetic and is usually not cureable. It is very hard to get rid of and will come back. Any dog that has this SHOULD NOT be bred, as they will produce it time and again. This was one of the reasons I got out of raising Collies. The have or had it very badly in their bloodlines.

Two types are different

Demodectic Mange (Red Mange) is NOT contagious.
Sarcoptic Mange IS contagious.

My dog had demodex when he was 2 years old. He was a neutered male. He was treated with ivomectin daily for three or four months. Vet told me it would come back, usually genetic, yada yada. We kept treating until he had two clear skin scraping (at the vet).

He is now 12 1/2 years old and it has never had another outbreak.

I have often wondered if the small dose of ivermectin that he gets with his HW preventative helped prevent it from coming back. The vet said that is unlikely, but I still wondered...

use Tatic for swine or horses and it will treat any and all. you mix 19cc per half gallon of water and sponge it on their whole body.

Ivomec injected

I have a 13 year old Bluetick I've been injecting one time subcu everytime she comes in season. She's never had pups because of her situation. I STILL inject her - but my vet said injected Ivomec "STINGS LIKE HELL" and that's why he recommends to most people giving it orally.

You don't see mange up here to much but I bought one from down south that had it and if I remember right I just had to give
her a shot of Ivomec two weeks apart.
