ear mites

my son has a dog that shakes her head alot.i think she might have ear mites.does anyone have a home remedy for this or is there some meds i can bye.please help thank you

Your dog could have an ear infection. start washing his ears out once a day for a couple of weeks with a solution of half regular vinegar and half water. Then do it only a couple of times a week.
If you will feel down the side of his head just under the ear you will feel the ear canal. Massage this solution in before allowing him to shake it out. The canal is kinda "L" shaped so if you do not massage it, it may not work all the way in.
If your dog has mites, try the bloodworths as recommended because I do not think my procedure will help with mites.
If he does not have mites and continues to shake his head after doing what I have prescribed, there is a recipe for Gentian Violet, Witch Hazel (or Alcohol), and boric acid, but I do not remember the quantities of each. You mix this stuff together and put in ears twice a day for 2-3 weeks and then once a day for a couple of weeks.You can find the recipe if you do a search on here. Some people claim great success here with that potion but my success has been limited!

1/2 cc of ivermectin in each ear will take car of ear mites. For all other things I use the following:
16oz alcohol
16 drops gentian violet
4 tablespoons of boric acid powder (not borax)

shake well and put and fill ear canal. Massage in and back up because it will stain. Do this every day for 2 weeks and then once per month.

witch hazel solution will work even better than rubbing alcohol in this formula.

If your dog is on ivermectin for heartworm, chances are good its not mites.

there are an awful lot of ear remedies on the market because these problems are not easy to solve. I have one hound who has a loud mouth and shakes his head because he is so loud it bothers him! He's made his ears bald at the top from shaking them so much, and has cause the eaar tips to bleed. Haven't been able to find a remedy.

The lady who sells this was at National Redbone Days and it worked to stop my hound from shaking his head during the water race. He is a grwch but won't wear a swim bonnet and is slowed down when water gets in his ears an he stops to shake. The Mearicle stuff has a drying agent in it and it seemed to work....

If your going to take her to the vet ask your vet about some stuff called 'T8 Keto". It is an antibacterial and antifungal ear cleaner. My vet mixes 3cc of Ivomec and 3cc of Dexamethosone in it. Mixed like this it will cure any problem a dog can have in its ear ranging from infection, food allergy, ear mites, swimmers ear, pretty much anything. The T8 is thicker than water and is more like a lotion so it will stay in the dogs ears and not shake out easily, it is very good stuff.

I had some dogs shaking thier head earlier this year and tried several of the ear remedies advertised in the books and had no success. I tried a standard ear mite treatment I got at the vet and it had only marginal results. My vet then gave me a bottle of this stuff and within a week I could see good results and by two weeks the shaking was completely gone. Now I use it once every two weeks and the problems havent come back.

Isopropyl (rubbing) alcohol 70%

i use alcohol rather than witch hazel simply because witch hazel is mostly distilled water and I just don't like the idea of putting water in the ear. I have heard it works, but that's just me.
