Going Back To My Roots.....

Some of my fondest memories growing up were the many hunts with a lil black Fiest that belonged to my Papaw.. She was without a doubt the best squirrel dog I've ever been in the woods with. She's the dog that started me in this sport of coonhunting/possum hunting. She never did tree a coon for me but we sure did work on the possum population for several years.

The hunts with her,me and my brother, or us and several cousin's will last forever. I hope I can turn these two into half the dog she was so that my nephews Wyatt and Cody can have the same kind of memories when they grow up.

I love these little dawgs... WAY too much energy for ME to ever handle... I definately find the LAZY hounds easier.... LOL but... LOVE to see OTHER people use these dogs as pets AND working dogs...
Thanks HOBO! Have a Great night, Heather

The white face one looks like a possum in the face,, he should be able to infiltrate behind enemy lines and take them all captive.

roots

If you take the body color of the first one and the white head and pooched up ears of the second together, then you have Spot. Especially if she grows up to have a dozen hairs on her tail. Spot belonged to "Uncle" John. We'd walk hunt and she never hunted out of the flashlight range but she'd trail and get in the dark and we'd follow. She trailed with a hoarse grunt and treed with a hoarse chop. Best I remember, she never had to trail over three hundred yards. I sure don't remember an empty tree and we only had two cell flashlights. One cold night she treed on the other side of a creek. We only had knee boots back then. Uncle John said,"We'll just rest right here. A coon ain't got no respect for a weak tongue dog. He'll get tired of that and come down and run her off or she might kill him." After about an hour, you could make out a comotion at the tree. Along came Spot with bloody ears and cut nose. He asked her,"did he run you off?" she just stood there. Then he asked,"Did you kill him?" She wagged that possum looking tail."Well I'll have to drive around there in the morning and get him."

Spot provided some of my fondest memories of 45 years of coon hunting. If your pup turns out like Spot, make that cross again and I will definately buy one.

Fiest

Some the Best hunts iv ever had where with Carin Terrier and a Bluetick Female, that Little Terrier had the heart of of a Rodesian Ridgeback lol see him go in a whole more times than one and fight a coon or possum out so the bl dog could get a hold of him

SO CUTE!

How big are the dawgs, Hobo? We have a little dawg, Daisy, who comes to play with our BnT Webster who came from TN. She is some sort of Cur X Feist... CUTE as a button... looks like she is 1 1/2 times the size maybe? They are awfully cute but the VOICE goes RIGHT thru me. Daisy is... rather VOCAL! SHe looks So much like a big tan version of Baxter...

Keep having fun with YOUR boys! Heather

Posted by l.lyle on 01-19-2011 05:53 AM:

Like trying to train my first coondog, it took me three years without a pup trainer. After twenty years I decided I wanted a squirel dog so I ordered a mountain feist from a fellow in Tennn. He told me his fambly had done raised up 24 generations of that line and they would top out about twenty pounds and"hunt like a bullet". So I bought one over the phone and got my son to pick it up at the airport while he was in Charleston one night. He brought the pup in and put it on my stomack while I was sleeping in my chair and told his friends , laughing, Daddy has done gone and bought hisself a Chee Wa Wa. That woke me up.
I'll tell you the rest of the story later.
