NC bear hunters...

A co-worker told me that in NC you can't use a rifle to shoot a bear, only a shot gun. Can someone give me the real scoop? And if you can use a rifle, what caliber do you use?

Thanks

I don't live in NC anymore and not really a bear hunter. But it says nothing in the NC regulations that I seen about not being able to use a rifle for a bear. The few I knew that bear hunted when I lived there used a pistol.

You can use a rifle just make sure of the local and county laws. In some counties you cannot shoot a rifle from the ground so that might be where what you heard came from

a lot of peopl make stuff up based on how they were raised doing things and it isn't even remotely true. to add to what bighunter said MOST counties that require you to be elvated for rifles are suburban counties w/ a lot of small properties.
