something smells fishy...

I recently had a tragedy in my home when my dog molly ran off and was hit a by a reckless driver. It was very sad and we wanted to move on, so it was decided we were going to buy a new American Pit Bull Terrier puppy of the blue variety. I decided on the blue's because molly was a red nose and I wanted a dog that was close just not exactly the same as molly.
I looked online and found a supposed "breeder" and picked out a puppy from his litter. I admit that I was a bit hasty and should have taken more time than 2 days to do my homework. I diddent know the questions to ask and have gotten into a mess. I sent the $400 deposit and made plans to pick the pup up(a 6 hour drive) two days later. When I got out there I could not find there address so I called and called about 15 times for an hour. finnaly they called back saying that they sent an email not to come because the guys wife's mom died. so I give them the benefit of the doubt, they say in 3 days they will bring the pup to me at around noon. They called and rescheduled and were not coming till the next day at1AM!! then they didden't arrive till 4 am!!!! they gave me a ukc registration that was dated last year and a vet form from a vet that does not exist! both of which I would have been much more apt to notice at 4 in the afternoon rather than 4 am. So I stopped payment on my check the next morning when I looked the forms over and called they to notify them of the situation asap. Now they tell me that they gave me a replacement registration form that was meant for another customer of thiers from last year and that that person got mine. so he is supposed to come back this weekend with the proper form. at this point I'm verry suspicious of the situation so I told him before he comes I want the puppys registration number before he comes. He was supposed to call me back 2 days ago and I havent heard boo since. Please help, what can I do?

You can either seek legal action against this person in an attempt for them to sign over the correct papers to you, and/or you can file a written complaint with us against them. You need to send us a signed statement, telling us exactly what happened. Be very specific and give us details. Sign & date the complaint and send it in to us, to the attention of our Complaint Department. Be sure to include your address as well as a good daytime phone number where you can be contacted. Also include copies of any supporting documentation, such as e-mails, the bill of sale, etc...

I sent a complaint, thank you. The guy called me and wanted me to meet him halfway to get the papers and wouldn't give me the puppys ukc# till I saw him. Is there any reason why he wouldn't want to give the # now so I could check with ukc? I'm not planning on meeting him like that though, it seems really sketchy.

There should be no reason for him not to give you the UKC number. No reason that I can think of.

I think you should check into filing some kind of legal action, that is awfully strange. Also there is a bad breeders list you could put him on so someone else doesn't wind up being burnt.

Great advice!

where can I find the bad breeders list? I am pursuing legal action at the moment. Can anyone tell me what the dog would be worth now I really don't have a clue. she is a nice dog but not in my opinion worth 800 or even 400...

Not to rain on your parade, but unless you have some kind of written contract with this breeder that specifies what they do or do not have to provide with the dog, along with whatever the dog costs, then the courts will throw it out.

Courts are about contracts, and monatary settlements. If you cannot provide any of that, then you have no case.

As for bad breeder lists, they are all over the internet, but be careful what you say on them, because IF the breeder finds them, and if you have made untrue statments or statments that you cannot prove, then they can turn around and sue you for libel and defamation of character.

first of all, does it sound like I'm having a darn parade? second of all, I have all emails & voicemails sent by the man. which in court will still be looked upon as a contract. I have my receipt and all false papers given to me. I'm not having fun with this and all I want to do is make this right and prevent this being done again. What the heck I started by saying my dog died and your talking about parades?!?! no response needed you have said enough.

It was simply a phrase.

I have run into many many many individuals IN your same type of position.

Voicemail..and email, are NOT signed or written contracts. Email can be faked. Its not considered a viable contract.

All i was offering you was, information that will help you prepare whatever case you plan on preparing. Courts do not care how upset you are. They do not care you dog died. All they care about is "IS" the documentation valid.

My advice was geared to GET your paperwork in a form that they will accept.

Many folks have gone into court with more than you have and walked out with nothing because they have NO signed documents.

If you choose to take that advice and information as some kind of slam against you...then by all means...do so....thats your perogative, but that is not what i said, or what i meant.

So...good luck
