Performance program??
I had been doin some readin about it, and is it still beneficial to performance a stud dog? I was readin (if I read it correct) that the payout was getting very low, and people were losing interest? Is this the case or did I misread? The reason I am asking is I am not sure if I want to pay to performance a male I plan on breeding to or not...
I don't see how anyone can sell a pup that isn't in it ... especially since you can get in for just $150 if you pay before December.
It's one of them things that will come back to haunt you ... you end up with a super nice young dog that could be in the hunts and it aint paid up ... you're not gonna get near what you could if the dog was Performance Eligible .
Justin do you have any personal experience with the performance? If so, what is the payout, is it still good or is it getting low? That is what I heard anyway, I am trying to find out if it is still the hot thing or starting to fall apart like was insinuated to me by someone...and if I performance him, I will be paying to performance someone elses male, just trying to see if it is worth it
Matt, the point value is currently $189.00
I have a female that is nothing special, just a common type of coondog and she has earned $1600.00 in the program and will prolly earn more. The value is down, may drop more and I don't care. There is no way I would feed anything that is not in the program. But that is just me.
Even if the value drops to $100.00 a point, that still pays you 50 dollars for 1st at a 5 dog hunt or 2nd at a 10 dog hunt. That covers your entry fee and travel expense.
Jim, thanks for that info, that is what I was looking for...how much has the point value dropped in the last year, do ya happen to know?
I think it was around $250.00 last year.
I waited til' late last year and had to pay $300 to get my male in it ... I just drug my feet , those pups aren't old enough to be in the hunts yet but it helped them sell much faster and for more money than they ever would have without being in it ... most were sold just a little after weaning and would work coon for $300-$500 each .
As my luck would have it ... I had to buy mine back and between this one pup and all the fees , I have $1,100 in her so far .
sounds like it woudl be worth it...so by or before december, you can performance a male for 150 for the next year?

It's $100 before Jan 1st of the year you are eligible , but you gotta DNA your stud before they'll let him in so you gotta tack on another $50.
ok I had though it was 100, thats where the other 50 comes in...
a point was worth $245 last year.
For me a performance pup is a added bonus, get a little back when you win a hunt. The pts don't add up very fast when your hunting in hunts that draw small crowds.

I think it is a must have. But I wish they would increase the enrollment fee for the stud. It would help the performance point value.
I realize they are trying to keep it cheap so every Tom, Dick, and Harry can have a performance pup out of their old dog. But IMO, these aren't the guys that are driving the performance program.
Leave the individual registration at $25 before 6 months old, this will encourage everybody to pay up their pup. Raising the fee too high will eliminate guys that might spend that $25 to pay up their pup otherwise.
But raise the stud fee enrollment. It is a steal compared to the superstakes. And I would venture to say most stud dog owners that breed any at all see a better return on their $100 performance fee than their $600 superstake enrollment fee.
Again, just my opinion...
