Gun Collectors????????

I know there has to be some gun collectors on here. I am a Gun Collector myself , My Grandpa taught me how to break down guns and clean them when I was 8 years old but I have a Question??

I buy many guns, yesterday I picked up a 1967 Remington Model 700 30-06. MINT CONDITION. Now I had it priced from one dealer at $1200 - $2000 I was wondering if any of you knew the value of this rifle. It has the Gold Antler Scope on it. Cherry Wood Grain Finished , Doesnt have a scratch and doesnt have a rust spot on the barrel. Has been shot approx. 5 times. Bore is Blue Steeled.

A gun is only worth what you can sell it for. With that being said, if you can sell it 1500 to 2000 dollars go for it.

Thanks , I dont want to sell it I collect guns , Just wanted a couple different opinions . I have a Gun Dealers Bible but This rifle was not in mine , but it was in a gunsmith I went to see today it was in his. So I didnt know if anyone on here had a book with this model in it and what the value was. Thanks

I have seen them go for 500 on up to 1600 all depends on the shape and how rare it is.

Well, you wont like my appraisal so I'm hesitant to give it. However, here it is. I'm sure it's a nice firearm, and it sounds like you found yourself a great one in great shape. The Rem 700's of the 60's through early 80's were not the nicest made Remingtons. If you look at your stock, and the checkering you'll see what I mean. The checkering was usually pressed rather than hand cut, and the grip section was often fat and fairly straight. It's often been theorized that those stocks are so glossy because they're poor grain and color quality...so they were lightly dyed and then finished with several coats of gloss poly to give them a uniform and smooth appearance. The metal fit has gotten better for Remington over the past 10 years or so, but your gun has the same round receiver and thick, removable recoil lug found on all Remingtons. All in all, if it's in excellent, unused condition I'd say it's worth around $300. Of course, I havent seen the firearm keep in mind. Three things that would have to be checked are: The muzzle/ crown, bolt face, and the top of the receiver. You mentioned it has a scope mounted on it, if the mounting holes are stripped or the top of the receiver is scratched from the ring mounting it could detract from it's value.

Depending on what you paid for it, you probably got a great deal on a nice old gun. Remingtons of those years are often in demand as custom rifles...you'd keep the receiver, lug, floor plate, bolt, and trigger...scrap the stock and factory barrel and you'd have a great start toward a nice custom rifle (true up the receiver and bolt face, adjust the trigger, fit it to a custom barrel, and glass bed the works into a nice stock).

You seem to know alot about your guns . I appreciate your honest appraisal . You are correct about the custom rifle part. I did go to a guy who is a Licensed Class III who has a armory of firearms. He stripped that sucker down within 15 seconds made it look easy. He told me who ever had it knew what they were doing when they mounted the scope cause it screw hold was not stripped although there was a scratch or two on the part underneath. I told him the gun had been fired 5 or 6 times and he looked at a part on the rifle and said he hadnt even been fired that many times. He told me many more other things but dont remember all of it, He said if I was to sell it to him the best he could give me would be $600. He said for it to be 42 years old who ever owned it put it up and didnt fool with it for it to be in that condition , He said it is in LIke NEW factory condition. He said if there was no scope on it he could have gave $800.
