Whats a good summer dog food formula?

Ive been feeding my dogs pride 24-20 and they are getting a little over heated I was wanting to change to a little less richer food. Whats a good summer formula for dogs getting hunted every other nite?

I would switch brands of feed if I were you.Pride is full of corn and other fillers that will make a dog heat up.

I feed Sportmix 24-20 and have no problems with dogs overheating.I just cut back on there feed in the summer. We pay 19.50 a bag when we buy it by the ton, other wise it's 21.99 a bag.I also have half the cleanup as I did when I fed Pride.

I feed the same feed all year but I hunt the same in the summer as in the winter. I still believe overheating is far more a reflection of conditioning than dogfeed.

I agree with JiM, conditioning has more to do with overheating than dog food. However some dogs will still overheat in warm weather. I would try cutting thier feed down first and if that didn't help then I would change.

I have been feeding Sportmix 26/18 and haven't had any overheating problems, but I do still hunt several nights a week.

i agree with Jim. I hunt year round, feed the same feed year round, and this time of year it can be an honest 85-90 degrees when we cut at dark. dogs have no trouble, but i can overheat trying to get to the tree timely.

Pride has a performance feed that is 21 17 that I feed pretty much year round. Best that I've fed from them. If you need a higher protein they have a 27 20 in the performance feed also. Doesn't take very much feed at all to keep a dog looking good.

i will argue that! i hunt a MINAMUM of 6 nights a week,in the winter i feed 24 20 and in the summer i feed 26 18 when it starts to warm up i have to switch cause the dogs get hot there fine now on the 26 18 but if i go back to 24 20 now they will over heat again (pant heavaly) i feel sick to my stomack if my dogs pant heavaly or hardly at all cause its cause im not doin my job and or the dog food aint!

I really dont think its a conditioning problem. I hunt 3 nights a week on average. When its 80 degress + they cant tree hard for long with out over heating. I know 3 nights a week aint alot but everyone of my dogs run the chain 24/7 they look like a race horse on steriods. If its cool 60-65 I have no trouble. But when its 80 dogs cant take it.

Yeah, mine does alot of panting when it is hot out. Panting is how dogs cool themselves off. I give plenty of water between drops and don't give much more thought about it.

I fed Black Gold for 9 years & due to diminishing quality combined with prices continually climbing higher I recently switched back to the Pride dog food. I buy a bag of their 22/12 & mix it 50/50 with a bag of their 26/18. I have only been feeding the older dogs 1-3/4 to 2 cups/day and they look great and so far have not shown signs of heating up. Of course in Ohio we have not had near as warm of temperatures as North Carolina either! LOL Like JiM says, I keep them well hydrated between each drop as well. When I fed the Black Gold I fed the 24/12 through the warm months & the dogs did well. Getting the percentage of fat down in the warmer months is just as if not more important than reducing the protein in my opinion.

I had to take my dogs off of Pride last summer. I have one that works the tree pretty good and he was done after one tree. This year I'm feeding Ultra 26-18 and have not had an issue yet. Night before last he treed for 45 minutes and was as fresh as could be.
