Bellar bred dogs

Just wondering what traits are common in dogs heavy on Bellar blood. I have some experience with Pac Man dogs but no others.

junky son of guns, but they can run a track!! lol

Thanks for the input. Lets hear more. I want the good, the bad, and the ugly.

Posted by on 06-02-2009 01:32 AM:

Actually they are probably one of the straighter lines of dogs out there. I've been around a bunch, most of them pups and young dogs and trash breaking isn't an issue.

Posted by Wes Coffman on 06-02-2009 02:46 AM:

They win.

Posted by Mike Mills on 06-02-2009 03:02 AM:

I think it is obvious that they win. That is why I am trying to find out more about them. What is it that makes them such winners? Track power? Tree Power? Are they balanced between track and tree? Are they accurate? Do they hunt deep or medium? etc. etc. etc.

bellar

Maybe they are decent hounds who are handled well and get the snot hunted out of them. Kind of like Frank Giddings. He doesn't feed any potlickers in the first place and he keeps them in the woods. Bloodlines are one thing but dogs don't learn much on a chain. My "two cents".

Posted by DarkMan on 06-02-2009 02:36 PM:

Well I know what it is,its HARD WORK I don't know about all of them because I don't talk to them but I do speak wit Elvis on some matters and I know he keeps a dog in the woods,do you remember when they was talking about the new pup Bellar was hunting(Sod Buster) and how they where hunting him every night trying to see what's what in all types of terrains? How many do that when preparing a hound for the hunts, alot of people hunt hard a week, shoot a couple down to them and your on your way to the hunt, those fellas hunts 6 to 7 nights a week weather permitting,so what you think the other beller guys are doing, right in the woods so I don't think its nothing special as far as the line of hounds they're running even though there well bred I think its just putting more wood time on them, now of course a little money helps but if you look at the past World beaters I'm sure you'll find your share of 9 to 5er's that has won it,And this is my OPINION on it,so don't go starting it wit me you asked!

Bellars Psycho

I have a 2 year old male Nitech out of Bellars Psycho. Not the best looking dog in the woods " LONG HAIR CURLY TAIL". Uselly 1st strike 1st tree in any company and the most accurate dog I own! If he's treed your gonna find a coon. Strange acting dog hard to make freinds with. Not mean in any will actully leave if theres any fight but he might be gettin a little tougher he actuly had some scars from the last hunt. Hope this helps!

I agree it has ALOT to do with hard work. I myself hunt 5 nights a week and vary the terrain on purpose. I Do have a top hound right now but that has not always been the case. Some I have owned have never satisfied me no matter how hard I pushed them. I am wanting to know the common traits if this line that are just bred in. You can't bring it out if it isn't there. I don't care how good of a trainer you are or how hard you hunt. You can only enhance what is already there. And Darkman I don't plan on starting anything with anybody. I did after all say I wanted to hear the good, the bad, and the ugly. But please everybody lets keep this about the dogs, not about Russ himself.

agreed 100%. theres lots of guys that hunt nearly every night. i for one, hunted nearly every night up til a couple months ago and was pushin some dogs that turned out ok but never would suit me completely.i had the bellar bred dog steve was talkin about earlier and hes as nice as they come,he was already about broke when i got him and hes nice, if i was to get a pup to raise and start it would be a bellar bred pup for sure. if joplin woulda been bred to deamon i woulda already had one. wouldnt mind one outta buster but im gonna kick back and see what kinda reproducer he is.

Posted by roofbolter on 06-02-2009 10:05 PM:

well, Ill had my two cents. Ive hunted with Hitler, ann, jukebox maude, and lizzy. Owned a sister to liz and a brother to her and hunted with several more. For one thing, they have some drive to them, they got a brain between their ears, and when they tree they are gonna have the meat most of the time. Ive also hunted with Russ on a few occasions, and one thing he isnt gonna hunt, or breed junk. One guy mentioned he saw 2 fight all nite. Well, Ive seen them hold there ground. Just like I have seen the same out of rat dogs, bozo dogs, harry dogs, and a couple old bluedogs that live down the road.Point is they are good, and sometimes jealousy gets alot of bs started. I got a 4 mo old thats got Bellars breeding, and what ive seen so far, hes about the only one that could afford her.

Posted by Ashley Pratt on 06-02-2009 10:10 PM:

I hunted a direct daughter of Pac-Man. Would not fight, tight on the ground and one of the most accurate tree dogs ever. Didn't seem flashy as far as mouth, trees style etc. but when the smoke cleared she could win most any cast.

Just call him,and ask him. He'll tell you what he likes and don't like about each one . And you'll be surprised, about he's opinion's on each one.

jim

hey jim ive got one of the pysco dog and he is double ugly ,, and can run a deer out of the country quick. but he also can tree a coon that quick too. i had him out sat. night and caught a coyote he ran it down and caught it. but he also had help about a half mile behind was two english dogs they were in on the kill. then we treed two more coon the same night if i could get him broke i would have a ugly dog that would win about any where.

pac man

I used 2 have a grandson out of pac man breeding. Bawl mouth track , long bawl locate 2 to 3 bawls depending on track. Bawl Chop tree dog ( Hotter track more chop ) Would strike and tree coons other dogs didn't know were there. BEST thing i liked Whether I hunted him 3 nights a week or once in three months he still made most dogs look very sick. Oh yeah on snow He made 99% coon dogs look bad . He rests in peace on my acreage now 11 years.

I would love to do an article on him and the dogs one day. Always heard a bunch of good things about Mr. Bellar and his dogs. Hunted with a couple that had Pac Man blood, but that's been all.

something i have noticed from the bellar hounds is they seem to be real accurate and consistent and independent,, ,, hunted with sod buster the other night and he seemed to be accurate and i have drew gabby 3 times and she has looked good all three times and been accurate,, even looked good after sittin up for little bit due to being in heat and not being hunted

One of the first hunts I ever went to was a PKC hunt at the old Connersville Indiana Club. That evening I drew out with Maude and Scott Engle and Randy Selby with Jodie, can't recall the 4th dog. Both Maude and Jodie looked really good that night. It was an entertaining cast to say the least
