dogs eating grass

does anyone really know why dogs eat it .

Posted by mnman on 05-12-2009 01:58 AM:

I think because they are lacking some thing in thier diet possibly. Used to be told it was going to rain when a dog ate grass. LOL

Had a vet tell me they eat grass to settle their stomach. When mine graze they stay outside longer just in case they toss their cookies.

feed them a couple of cans of cheap green beans from grocery store and they will stop.

Usually comes out one end or the other and hard to prevent when they're loose. Grass is cheaper than beans. (Grin)

I always heard that if a dog eats grass its a little slow. Makes sense if you think about it! haha

to settle their stomach sounds good to me. I took minus both ways in the early round of super stakes because mine was eating grass at base of tree on first tree. After that she treed a coon and won the cast. Took her a little bit to get going. I figured she was sick from being in and out of the box all day.

This is my opinion too. I believe it is vitamin B-17 that is lacking in there normal diet. Some experts believe that the lack of B-17 is what causes cancer.

Why do they eat grass? I'll tell you why! It's cause they see the cows do it all day long and wonder what they're missing!! LOL! No really I think it's just that they like to make us mad by puking all over the place and they know the grass will do it to them!

they eat grass when their stomach is upset. The grass give them a gag reaction and makes them vomit and them their stomach settles down..

I agree with wild dog also.

With alot of dogs, the hair on their tail about 3-4 inchs from the tail setting will puff out when they are feeling bad, or eating grass.

GRASS...

..SOmetimes to barf, sometimes to eat... I found out with the greyhounds who get cooked veggies in their diet when fresh cooked... that they LIKE veggies and grass. One of ours ALWAYS ate grass before he pooped... it seemed to stimulate the bowels. He would SOMETIMES eat it and barf. He RARELY barfed it up though so it usually came out the other end... pretty well undigested... LOL.. Between my LONG hair and...HAY.... we have had to pull out a few hangers..... LOL...
OUr current dogs... the Blue dawg is a grazer and loves to eat honey bees as well. THe BnT eats when he's overly hungry and we are feeding too late... then he barfs and looks SAD... He also grazes without barfing. Our first BnT did not eat grass unless she wanted to barf but ALWAYS ate dandelions....

WHY? We'd have to speak DOG to find out wouldn't we?

BUT... it DEFINATELY isn't ONLY when they don't feel good! COyotes eat lots of veggies, grass and apples. Around here if you find their poo you find a buffet mix!

Have a Good day! HappyHunting heather
