how do you score this?

4 dog cast. dogs a b c and d are struck. dogs a b and c are treed. cast arrives at tree and tree is slick with a hole big enough for a mouse. cast votes 2 to circle 2 to minus. with the judge voting to minus.

Twister, you mentioned that the judge voted to minus. That doesn't matter because when scoring a tree, the judges vote carries no more weight than any other cast members vote.
It takes a majority to plus or minus a tree. Since you have no majority, the only thing left is circle. Delete isn't an option.

Bummer for me

Not in my case, three dog cast, I was the only one carrying plus points the entire hunt. Treed the only coon seen all night and with 16 minutes left in the hunt my dog was tracking by herself and eventually fell treed from the other two. Hunt ran out, but just before time was up they treed their dogs farther in. Well actually one wasn't actually treed, just heading to cover the other dog, but that was between the two of them. So anyway we went to my dogs tree, it was obviously a den, but the both of them said that they didn't think the hole went anywhere, maybe a squirrel den and they minused me. So bam, my plus points were eliminated and so we went to their tree while they argued about one dog going to cover the other and we shined their tree, it was a big den and no coon seen. So, the entire ended with nothing. HMMMMM.

Let me guess, the handler whose dog wasn't there voted to minus? Its also amazing to me how many trees with a little rotten piece of bark, or less, become den trees when some people's dog is hammering away, underneath...

I think the biggest problem with nite hunts is getting people to vote the way it should be scored, instead of what benefits their dog the most.

Nothing else works right with the rules, scoring or judgement calls if you don't have at least a majority thats honest.

in ukc can you put a ? on the scoring of the tree and ask the moh or a panel to go back to it for intentional misscoring of a tree?

You can question anything but I have never heard of taking a MOH back to the woods in UKC. Doesn't mean you can't or it hasn't ever happened, but I never heard of it. Not in UKC.

Here is how to score this situation. This is not hard.

1. Judge must score the tree. Did he score the tree to be minused?

2. Some one ask for a vote on the way the tree was scored. Did that happen?

3. Vote is taken on how to score the tree. Every handler MUST vote. Was that followed?

4. It takes a majority of the cast to overturn a judges decision. (3 out of 4 on a 4 dog cast). 2 for circle and 2 for minus was the vote, right? Judges decision stands.

Just follow these steps and you will usually have no problems..... IF EVERYONE IN THE CAST KNOWS AND FOLLOWS THE RULES.

Sorry Jerry, that's just plain wrong. That's where all this confusion comes from.

In UKC the judges vote has no more weight in scoring a tree than anyone else. You don't "leave the tree the way the judge voted". A 2-2 vote is circle, end of story because it takes a majority to plus or minus a tree in UKC. All trees are scored by majority vote in UKC.

For other things, yes you leave it as the judge scored it and take it back to the MOH, but because the rules specifically say it takes a majority to plus or minus then that doesn't apply to trees. You either have a majority or it's a circle tree, no matter how the judge votes, his vote is the same as everyone elses on a tree. There have been multiple Advisors on the subject as well.

AMEN!
I bet I have had this discussion ten times lately with people who "think" the know the rules.
