Flies on a dog?

Does anyone know of a good way to get flies to stay off a dog? I have heard about using medicated cattle ear tags but dont know much about it. Any advice would be great.

I use horse fly spray. Works great at keeping all the flying nasties off the dogs. Even those **** nasty little biting deer flies.

i use a spray i buy at rural king its made for outside dogs, it works great, best thing i have found for the price, i think its 7 bucks for a bottle normally i will use 1 maybe 2 bottles a summer on 3 dogs, it works for flies, misquitoes, and ticks and it smells good too and its "water proof" but it lasts about 3 weeks i also do a quick spray inside there houses

I have heard of a lot of things. Sprays, creams, traps, fly predators, ect.

I have switched to ULTRASHIELD EX (horse spray) and will not use anything else. It is supposed to lat 17 days and be sweat and weatherproof. Now it doesn't last 17 days on my dogs, but even swimming, rolling, hunting ect. It will last me about a week. Never found another product that works that long. Usually your out there everyday spraying.

I just mist them, and spray the front of the dog houses, and maybe a squirt or two where the dogs tend to "go" and the flies, bees and ants dissapear. Says it works for fleas and ticks too. Don't know for sure cause I use ProMeris on the dogs every month. It DOES work for mosquito's too. I know I have dog that welts up from them, and never has them when I spray 'em down with that.

I use the Ultrashield on my horse, never used it on the dogs but it works great on the horse can't see why it wouldn't work for dogs too.

Not sure why

but when we had our dogs tied out they got ate up by flys.We built off the ground kennels and the fly problem has stoped. Not sure why but it is no longer a problem. Ive had the kennels full and needed to tie one out for a few days or so right next to the others and had to use fly spray on them.

Thanks for the advice. I have not had a problem before until now. I will try the spray for horse and see how that works.

We use Pet Guard from the vet. It works great. If you have a dog whose ears are a mess before you start using it ask your vet to put an antibiotic in it.
We have 70+ dogs in for training in the summer time and it works better than anything else we have tried.
