-- 5 minute stationary rule ? (http://forums.ukcdogs.com/showthread.php?threadid=272040)
5 minute stationary rule ?
I looked in the rule book and couldn't find exact wording on this. I know that the 5 minute stationary rule can be put on a dog obviously treeing that has not been called treed, and can be scratched if not called treed in the 5 minutes and is found to be treed by judge.
My question:
Dogs A and B are treeing but have not been called treed yet. Handler of Dog A finally trees his dog and 5 minutes start, but handler of Dog B doesn't want to tree his dog, says "it doesn't sound right". I ask about the 5 minute stationary rule being put on dog B and judge says"5 minute can't be put on him because there is a dog at tree already declared treed". Dog B is treeing every breath, I said the 5 minute sationary rule should be started and if someone disagreed we would vote on it, then if not satisfied question it to moh. When that was said handler of Dog B treed him. Both dogs stayed at tree and tree was den. This did not affect the score of hunt that night but very well could have. Handler of dog B was judge.
I didn't find anything in the rule book about if a dogs is treed it cancels out the stationary rule on another dog at same tree. Any help on htis would be appreciated.

I think these rules will apply in this situation:
4 (g) Dogs treeing, but not declared treed, when Judge arrives, will be minused on tree points on "off" game or slick tree. Points will be determined by next available position in the case of one dog, or split available tree points in the case of two or more dogs. Dogs shut out on strike on slick tree or "off" game will receive minus tree points only.
4 (d) If dog declared treed, after five minutes has elapsed no additional dog can be declared treed at that particular tree but if they come in to tree will get minus on track and nothing on tree if coon is seen.
If you already had the tree time running on dog A, and dog B was obviously at the same tree then these 2 rules would apply. If dog B was in a different location then the 5 min stationary rule would apply to dog B in accordance to rule:
6 (q) If handler fails to declare treed a dog obviously treeing (Judge's decision) for a period of five minutes. Dog may be declared treed while five is running but not after the five has expired. Judge must verify dog to be at a tree before it can be scratched

Yes it cancels the stationary. If the dog is treeing before you arrive and its slick hes going to get next available on the tree and minus both ways. If there is a coon hes gonna take minus strike pts.

Do you know how much money you could win with that dog?.................Now ask if I care.
jaiman, the rule as written in the rule book is very vague. Allen did an Advisor column in Bloodlines shortly after this rule went into effect stateing in great detail how this rule is to be judged. The 5 is broke anytime a dog is declared treed in the same area as the dog under the stationary. So your judge was right.
Whenever a dog is declared treed on that tree it would break 6Q. The rules Casey mentioned would then come into play for dogs treeing but not declared treed. I'll have to go back and see about digging up some of the info written in regards to 6Q. Might find it under Coonhound Advisor on the main page?
After reading the rules over again that Casey posted it does seem to be more clear. That is about the 5th time I've read the rules completely cover to cover, some of the ones that are somewhat vague just takes a little longer to soak in.
Thanks guys

I read it in every issue. The issue that had the article about the option to re-cast, I tore that page out of the book and put it in my pocket when I went on a hunt one night. I had got to hunt the early and was looking over a Bloodlines issue in my truck, saw the article , tore it out then.
The situation came up toward the end of the hunt, we had just scored my dog's tree plus, there were two dogs treed and one on track, the judge told me I had to turn loose. I told him about the rule and he started to get upset and told me to turn loose or I was scratched, I pulled the article out of my pocket and and showed it to him. He agreed I had the option. I was leading and really no way the others could catch up, and time was running out on hunt, so I didn't recast and won the cast and hunt. I just don't think he had paid much attention to the new rule change.
But having the advisor column in my pocket that night about the new rule change sure helped out.

Well IDK but around here if it isnt in a rule book they don't believe you. They make rules as they go anyway. So oh well I suppose.
MIKYLE
Thats how it should be.If its not in the rule book. They should not believe it..

The advisor colum is rules that are straight out of the rule book...you know it and I know it that some of the rules are a little fuzzy as to how they are worded and how they apply to different situations. The colum breaks down different rules and explains how they are to be applied. I find it to be a great assest, and a learning tool to help me better understand the rules, and how I need to apply them if I'm judging a cast. To each his own I guess. Happy Hunting

This rule is mis interperated to much, the statiionary rule never used to be called and now all of a sudden a dog makes two tree barks every handler in the cast is saying put the stationary on him, if that dog is holding up the cast or preventing another dog from advancing then ok, but 99 percent of the time they are not .
worst rule out there

Thanks Stetzels,
Honesty wins hunts
I would definetly give the dog the benefit of the doubt. But when a dog is hammering away every breath for a few minutes that's different. And usually not on the first dump either. In all the hunts I've only had it come a couple of times. Both times the judge gave a different interpretation. That's why I asked.

No, the rule that allows us to tree a dog for 75 at 4:59 left on the tree is the worst rule out there.

That is another not so good one. Especially when they don't even run track into the tree, just "me too" for 75.
