What exactly is a "brood bitch"
I never understood why someone would want to breed a dog that cant even tree a coon by herself... In my opion when you breed dogs that cant get it done you are doing nothing but hurting the breed!!! What do yall think about it???

I agree, but some good dogs have came from the worse crosses ever made.

is what a friend of mine used to do... He would train em and if they proved to be early starting hard treedogs he would make brood matrons of them.... He couldn't possibly hunt them all as they needed but he did see them all under coon early in life knowing they had potential... Some got off and on running some didn't... Not a perfect plan but better than alot of guys...

Yeah, I competition hunt !! All Fall and Winter long.. My Blues compete with the local coon.. My Blues win a ton !!! We use and recommend MOONSHINER LIGHTS, Peggs , Ok.
I personally dont believe in them. I wish there was a way of making a dog prove itself before its pups could be registered. I know that is almost if not impossible to do but I feel it would really improve all the breeds. Too many people breed useless females to the big stud dogs and get only one or two good pups out of the litter and think they have done good because of what one or two pups do when the rest are just as useless as thier mom was.

if you're gonna do it, do it in style!
If you can’t dazzle them with brilliance, baffle them with BS.
If you have a below average female from a litter of otherwise well above average dogs she could make an excellent reproducer. A super dog from an otherwise average or below average litter would probably be a poor choice for breeding. The genes you're most likely to pass on has little to do with one dogs individual talents.
Boys if a female can not make a night champion she is nothing I would ever want a pup out of. Now days anything that will tree a coon can make a ukc night champion and most of the night champions now can not even tree one on their own and boys that is a fact !! This would be ukc dogs at their best. This is one of the reasons people dont think much of a ukc dog any more.
waitformetotree,
try to sell one thats NOT UKC registered. It wont be easy.
And i wish some one would show me all these nightch and grands that can't tree a coon. There may be a few but not many.

in the same respect how many so called stud dogs cant reproduce ther own likeness likeness. been in horses more than the hounds and have seen many a great race horse that couldn't produce anything close to a racehorse but yet there siblings weren't as good as a racehorse themselves but could reproduce great race horses. a lot of it is the way there trained as it is in the hound game.

Brood females
My thought is that its a shot in the dark on ANY pup making a way above average coon-dog, regardless out of a brood bitch or a World Champion female............
Alot of it is who gets the pup and who trains it.
Every once in a great while you will come across a Stud or female that produces SUPER NICE hounds, but you are lucky to see one of these in our lifetime........................
If I had a female that had never been hunted, but I wanted to raise a litter from her to keep the bloodline going, I would breed her and see what I get, its a Gamble out of EVERY litter from any Stud or any female...............I have been around this game for almost 30 years, I dont believe most of the Bullshi++ thats out there. If you like what you hunt, continue with it.
Thanks.........................Tim

I love reading this crap. Everyone trying to justify, the need to hunt and train the dog for 4 years before it is bred. Like that hound is gonna magically produce better pups cause she was broke out. I say if a man wants to fool around and raise pups outta his female, its none of my business. If you question the power of genetics, maybe you ought to raise a few pups yourself instead of trying to demonize someone for using a "brood" matron.
I will define brood bitch to you. It is any female that the owner of said female, is currently raising pups from. It could be a world ch., or a dud.
Puppy mill
That's the purpose of a brood gyp.

Puppy Mill, huh, Mr. Parsons? Interesting. Well you go ahead and break out every female you ever get and then breed her and I'll put her percentages against any well bred unbroke female bred to a worthy stud.

Congrats Brandon! Is that with your female out of Clyde?
Knox,
Just because a college education is hard and it may not mean a better job, does that mean no kids should ever try?
THe same thing applies to breeding. Just because it is a gamble doesn't mean we shouldn't work hard to produce better crosses.
I think the whole it is a gamble argument is one reason there are so many culls today.
All I can say is I am glad the early walker breeders didn't feel the same way.
