"HELP" maybe we need "LAWYERS" to help us fight the anti's !!!!

I've been hearing so much more lately, about the anti's, (animal rights, and etc....), bombarding our government with bills, and hidden bills trying their hardest to past laws to ELIMINATE dog hunting, and hunting altogether. I have read just about all the threads on here where some people has started, telling us about what's going on, and I have done my part to help our cause, but have you.!!! I know it's easier for everyone to say, what can I do,I'll just let them handle it. (WE ARE BEING OVER-WHELMED BY THEIR POWER)
Here's my idea. We need lawyers, lobbyist or whoever, to be hired to look after our interest. And how will they be paid you asked, by our local coon clubs, by UKC, and the other KC's, even if they have to get the money from an increase in our registrations, and memberships, or an increase in hunt entries. If we don't start doing something, then we all will loose our rights to hunt and even to own our dogs. UKC, help us help you, because if we don't do something you will loose a lot of money if we loose our hunting rights.
WE NEED AN ORGANIZATION POWERFUL ENOUGH TO START THE BALL ROLLING, AND UKC, PKC, AKC, AND OTHERS PULLED TOGETHER, WITH US HUNTERS, WE WILL BE VERY POWERFUL !!!!

I get a little long winded, but fellows this is not a cry over something small, this is the future of our sport. Once a bill is passed by our government, it is usually there forever. You better take this serious, because the anti's sure do. Go to your local hunts or your local country stores, and all you here is how they're trying to take away our guns, our hunting rights, and most of us don't know what we can do. That's why we need someone smarter than us legally to look out for our interest. I don't want to here, well that's why people need to vote, well I don't think the polls are open right now, and I didn't vote for the Dem's to have all their power. Now is now, we better start our own "CHANGE".

I agree with you Terry

When I was visiting the legislators' offices last week, several people mentioned our "RIGHTS OWN TO PROPERTY" and questioned how Animal Rights have the legal power to dictate anything about the keeping of animals or to seize them - they asked who was giving them that authority. They refered to the U.S. Constitution. A scary sight on Texas TV is the SPCA people wearing jackets that say "SPCA POLICE" as they haul away (seize) peoples' animals. Who gave them THAT title, and exactly how much authority do they actually have?
Remember, HSUS trains Animal Control officers nationwide, and this SEEMS to give them the authority to "RULE" because towns, cities and counties with "Animal Control" factions go by HSUS dictates.
Also, remember - HSUS/PETA & the other AR groups want to remove ALL animals from our ownership - IN ADDITION TO OUTLAWING HUNTING & THE RUNNING OF HOUNDS.
WE DEFINITELY NEED SOME POWERFUL ATTORNEYS TO HALT THIS ATTACK ON ANIMAL OWNERS.
But where are they?

Most issues seem to boil down to money to operate with. However if a plan came up to get the money it then would seem to be a larger issue to decide who handles it and what to do with it.
The kennel clubs seem to operate on what I think is $1.50 per dog entered plus of course there fees for reg. etc. I haven't a clue how many dogs are entered in a years time but a small surcharge of .50 or a dollar per entry might raise money, but then you have a national plan and I'm sure a large argument over what you do with it and who does it. Other KC's might even jump in.
I'm afraid it would take a real politician to put it together and also keep it together down the road.

Posted by skyblu on 04-15-2009 10:20 PM:

Dale

Good idea. Is there any reason why we couldn't have a "Rep" from each KC? I have no problem with paying an extra 50 cents on entry fees if we'd get our hands on a REAL attorney who could prove these radicals have NO RIGHT to tell citizens what they can do with their animals. A REAL attorney who would go to bat for everyone in this country so that these radicals would be forced to "close up shop."
What so many legislators don't stop to think about is the fact that ALL states have laws that cover cruelty to animals, and the AR people should not be the ones dictating the laws.

This idea will not work unless we have overwhelming support from the Major Kennel Clubs, Dog Food Companies, Hunting Supply Owners, Dog Breeders, Dog Hunters, (competition & pleasure), etc.....not to forget the Deer, Fox,Squirrel,Rabbit, Bird,Bear, dog hunters of all kind.
Just think, if the Groups that have as much to loose as we do like, UKC, PKC, AKC, Purina, and the other big hitters, would join in and push the issue, along with our support, the animal rights and the anti hunting groups would be crushed.
Come on people, are we going to wait until it's too late. What about the youth, do you want your kid's to be able to hunt.
If you don't think this is a serious matter, then just keep on posting on the computer about your dog for sale, or what to breed to, or what dog food to feed, or who's on the reproducers list, for what, if we loose our hunting rights you won't need to know!!!!!!!!

If you read these post and wonder, what can I do, well reply on here by say whether you agree or not. Don't think these post are not read by people that matter. You would be surprised. Even the anti's surf our message boards.

UKC, PKC, AKC all have a vested interest in this issue. We shouldn't need to "suggest" to them to increase their fees for this. As a vested interest they should be informing us that fifty cents or even a dollar from every entry will be placed towards this issue. If these domestic terrorists are allowed to continue in their ways I lose a piece of my way of life. UKC, PKC, and AKC lose.....period. C'mon UKC, ask for $1.00 from every entry to go towards a legal fund for this fight.

OKAY

1.Let's get a NAME for our organization.
2.Ask UKC for a "sticky" on this forum to post names of those supporting our organization.
3. Start recruiting members from the registries, dog food companies, sporting, dog, cat, animal magazines, Veterinarians, etc.
4.Decide on membership fees so that we can pay for TV, magazine and newspaper ads telling the TRUTH about AR goals. And get a 501-C status (nonprofit, tax free)
5. Find an attorney with a sincere desire to further our goals who will also get us incorporated as a nonprofit.

I'm willing to write media updates and ads but I don't have free long distance. We need people who can spend time on the phone contacting every single entity connected with animals. The general public has NO IDEA what these AR people are doing.
TIME IS OF THE ESSENCE - THERE ISN'T MUCH TIME LEFT BEFORE THE CEILING FALLS ON US.

I agree let me know who to send money to, I think my local club has used a lobbiest in the past when dog bills came up. I am not sure what her name was but she came to the local meetings. The duplin onslow hunters association hired her and this was just a two county hunting organization. What could we do nationally?

Find your local houndsmen association. They collect club dues to mobilize against local attacks and if all the local clubs could band together then we would be hard to beat.

Clubs alone can't do it!

We are up against organizations with MILLIONS in their war chests.
We need the registries, dog food companies, vendors, magazines and ALL people owning & wanting to CONTINUE TO OWN animals. This is NOT just a coonhound situation!
A majority of U.S. households owns a pet of some sort.

HELP! need LAWYERS to fight Antis

Hi.. Last year dog fanciers in Ohio were fighting a Kenneling Bill that would have resulted in high licensing fees, stiff regulations,etc....the usual threats from the HSUS. We were coming down to the wire before end of legislative year. One of the lobbyists (hired by Amish to defend their commercial dog operations which were the target of the legislation) called the NRA which got involved because of HUNTING DOGS. NRA worked the phones and called legislators... when it came to the vote the sponsors couldn't get enough votes to pass their bill. Join NRA. They are about your RIGHTS and have the clout and expertise to fight these Antis. Judi Doran, OH Sportsmen & SPorting Dog Assn.

Posted by skyblu on 04-16-2009 02:36 PM:

NRA is GREAT - but

But the NRA isn't set up to focus on the NATIONWIDE attacks of H$U$/PETA, etc. We need to get information out to the general public about the true goals of these AR groups.
The NRA probably is not even aware that the AR goals are
ZERO PET POPULATION - Eradication of ALL pet ownership.
The NRA is involved with keeping the Second Amendment.
The only way I can see using the NRA is if we have an organization formed to FUND the extra time & expense for a SPECIAL BRANCH of the NRA to fight for our rights to own pets.
The AR people have MILLIONS in their war chests & H$US is now stating they plan to start operating shelters by 2015 - that'll give them the ability to raid ALL of us & euthanize every critter they get their hands on.
THE ONLY WAY TO STOP THE AR BILLS IS TO MAKE THE GENERAL PUBLIC AWARE OF H$U$/PETA. etc. GOALS so they'll STOP SENDING DONATIONS to these organizations. The general public funds these AR groups.

Thanks, to all that has viewed this thread and posted your agreement about we need someone to be our spokesperson on these important matters. I just wish more people would get on here so the "Big Dogs" can see we are willing to fight for what we love, our hunting sport.

I'm really surprised that this tread hasn't been overloaded with support or other ideas on how to fight for our sport. I've heard about more deer and fox hunters doing more to fight for our sport of dog hunting than the coonhunters, what's up with that.

How about it "UKC", is this a good idea or not. All that has responded on this thread agree with helping to pay for someone to help us fight the anti's, are you willing to help save dog hunting for YOU and us hunters.

Posted by Rick Ennen on 04-17-2009 01:11 AM:

A couple years ago I joined the Sporting Dog Coalition that is part of the US Sportsman's Alliance. This is a national organization that is already in place and actively working to counter the anti's and protect hunting with dogs. I send them a couple hundred $$ a year and believe it's a good investment because some day I just might need the help of a national organization to fight a local issue affecting me and my dogs. I agree we need to put our resources into organizations with the readiness, knowledge and ability to protect us.

Posted by Cornbelt on 04-17-2009 02:14 AM:

Here in Iowa we have the Iowa State Coon Hunters Association. Many coon hunters think the ISCHA is just for the competition hunters, or just supports a certain KC. In reality the ISCHA is fighting to keep and expand the rights every hunter who free casts a hound in the state of Iowa. We do this by paying a lobbyist to watch for upcoming bills and laws that will affect our rights. He works with our govt. officials and keeps us up to speed on what we do and don't need to be in contact with our state representatives about. We have had success in defeating some laws that would have affected us negatively and also on some that have affected us in a positive way. IMO the ISCHA is the best chance Iowa coon hunters have of being made aware of changes before they happen so we have a chance to fight them.
