.Somalie Pirates...what am I missin' here?

...................you hire a merceny or two for each boat, equipped with AK-47's and some RPG's............they come up in their little boat, you send 'em to pirate Hades............??????......must not be that simple, ay???????......I would think the first 4 or 5 pirate boats that got spread over the Ocean might cause 'em to let up a bit...........

In my opinion mercenaries are scum of the earth but they do seem like the logical solution in this case.

...I've been informed that several countries will not allowed armed vessels into their ports.........wonder if the pirates know that...????..........lolol...................there are ways to deal with them without what would be considered "arms"................searing hot oil over the side comes to mind...........

What are the countries that will not allow armed vessels in?

Maybe we could just tell those countries we will not be sending ANY vessels in unless they allow us to arm them.

If those countries won't let in weapons, simply thow the weapons overboard before entering the port of call. It would be cheaper than paying out millions in extortion payments.

Exactly what did you personally see and what were you doing that allowed you to see it?

The armed/unarmed is a complex maritime legal issue. Non military vessels are not allowed to go armed.

No I don't know all the specifics of it, my info came from a Navy lawyer I know.

I spent 12 months and then another 18 months in Iraq with the US Army. I have personally seen blackwater employees intentionally run over unarmed civilians in their trucks, shoot boys that were throwing rocks at their ARMORED trucks. Don't get me wrong mercs have their place in war zones but they don't need to be running around the country with no ROE and killing innocent people.

So based on the definition of a mercenary from the english dictionary (see below) you are proud to call yourself one? Not trying to start an argument - just trying to understand. You are motiviated by money and greed and get paid by foreign armies? I may be misunderstanding something here but that does not sound like something to be proud of.

mer·ce·nar·y (mūrs-nr)
adj.
1. Motivated solely by a desire for monetary or material gain.
2. Hired for service in a foreign army.
n. pl. mer·ce·nar·ies
1. One who serves or works merely for monetary gain.
2. A professional soldier hired for service in a foreign army.

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

[Middle English mercenarie, a mercenary, from Old French mercenaire, from Latin mercnnrius, from mercs, wages, price.]

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

merce·nari·ly adv.
merce·nari·ness n.

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
mercenary
Noun - a soldier who fights for a foreign army for money
Adjective
1. motivated by greed or the desire for gain.

If our government had any brains they would have taken care of this by now.
While they were waiting for a chance to save that captain last weekend , they should have gotten ahold of all the shipping companies and found out exactly where their ships were. Then , once they had him safe , send out the fighter jets and blow everything , that isn't supposed to be there , out of the water. Problem solved.

In Iraq it's sometimes not wise to stop for so-called civilians. How many UNIFORMED INSURGENTS DID YOU SEE WHILE VISITING IRAQ? There's no way to tell an honest civilian from an enemy combatant.

I didn't say anything about stopping. I said intentionally going out of their way to run people over, and shooting kids that were throwing rocks. They wouldn't have needed to stop their patrol to avoid these actions.

LOCKEDNKS-

THANK YOU FOR SERVING OUR COUNTRY. SOME PEOPLE DON'T UNDERSTAND WHAT IT IS LIKE TO BE OVER THERE IN WAR. I HAVE MULTIPLE FRIENDS THAT WERE THERE AND A COUPLE THAT STILL ARE. I AM SO THANKFUL FOR WHAT YOU GUYS DO FOR THIS COUNTRY.

PEOPLE THAT SIT ON HERE AND QUESTION SOMEONE THAT HAS BEEN THERE AND DONE IT SHOULD MAYBE STEP BACK AND TAKE A LOOK AND SAY THANK YOU INSTEAD OF RIDICULING THEM.

THANKS ONCE AGAIN

JED FINLEY

Jed, thanks for your thanks it is much appreciated.

I don't think he was ridiculing me at all. I think that I just didn't do a very good job of explaining what I have seen these mercenaries do over there. I am not upset with him, just tried to explain it a little better.

Ya'll seem to be forgetting all the crew members that are being held captive. You start blowing the pirates out of the water and they start killing the hostages. I think a few countries would get upset about their citizens being killed.

The pirates are covering a huge area of the ocean and the combined air forces of all the countries involved can't cover it all. You get one small boat and there are 10 more where that came from.
