Plenty of water and a bowl.
All of my dog's snake bites have been here at the house so far. Bynedryl given at 1MG per pound is recommended for snake bites.

I try to be a light as possible, that's T-shirt,jeans and rubber boots(never wear waders I don't care for them plush were I hunt I don't need them)I was told by a old fella once to keep a soda bottle of kerosene to rub on the snake bite and he said many a times the dog could keep on hunting, now I don't know how true that is but ima try it if it comes to that point.

I carry snake bite medicine I get from the Vet. Its in a liquid form and has to be given as a shot under the skin but I have had good luck with it. I had two dogs get bit last year and I gave them a shot within a few minutes and both were able to hunt the next night. I am not sure whats in it but I could call my vet and find out if you want to know.

We got a few rattlers around here but nothing like the copperheads. The best I can remember we killed about thirty last year while hunting. I aint complaining though I would take a handful of copperheads over a rattlesnake any day.

Where do you get alumn?
you should be able to get over the counter it at any pharmacy..
that stuff is NASTY tasting, when I was married to my 1st ex wife and was out getting drunk till the wee hours of the night I made it home somehow and when I woke up the next morning I smelled breakfast cooking, my ex comes in sweet as could be and asks "honey" are you ready for some bacon, eggs and home made biscuits (I shoulda knew something was up) and I told her no thanks I'm too sick to eat but a cup of coffee would be nice..
well she goes and brings me my mug of coffee and says here ya go sweetie, man I take a couple of swigs and my mouth puckers up and I cant swallow, spit or anything else with a REAL BITTER taste and I just knew she'd poisoned me for sure!!
I was 21 back then and never will forget the taste of that alumn, I didnt go back out and get that drunk again for at least 2 weeks!! LOL
I never did figure out why that marriage didnt last???

Most vets should sale it to you with no problem. If not find a hog farm they use dex. Dex is a type of steroid they use it for the anti inflammatory effects try and keep a bottle with me as long as the Capt no shoulders are sliding around.

where do i get it from went to the vet yesterday and they said they had to see the dog. i tryed to explain that there was nuthing wrong with the dog just in case the dog get snake bit and she came in with a big long story and bla bla bla... 15 mins later she tells me that she cant give it to me.
Waders are for winter. I have a pair of Lacrosse uninsulated knee boots I have had for 25 years I wear in summer. I cut two quarter size wholes just above the heels on each boot. When you cross a creek or slough they fill with nice cool water and when you get to the other side the water drains out. Keeps them ole feet cool.when ole Rat gets deep. Also saves those high price waders.

you are right about the dexamethazone. give them 3cc when it happens and the next 2 days along with ammoxicillin for 6-7 days. most vets that work on large animals alot will sell it to you

Also in summer down here bring a pair of channel lock pliers along to pop the teeth out of any gators you may encounter on your hunting trip. Never heard of a gator gumming a dog or human to death yet.
