Buying dogs off the internet?

How many people have bought coon dogs off of one of the internet classifieds on a mans word and were you satisfied or not with the hound you got?

Try before you buy period.

Never bought one off the internet but i did buy one off a mans word one time. I bought a bitch from an old dog trader one time. He told me she was only lackin 20 points from nitechampion and had some pups on the ground doin great. Said she was a deep huntin get through the country kinda dog. But come to find out the dog trader only had her for 2 days before i bought her.( he knew nothing about her) She had never been in a comp hunt and had never had a litter of pups. But i got lucky and she turned out to be one of the nicest females i ever owned. And she is a pleasure to hunt with.

I think its all in who you know, I just bought a dog for some pretty good money and never even seen a photo of this animal. Now days with the enter-net and all you can check around and find things out about the dog.. For what its worth you can take the word of MR. david seese from PA. and i would like to thank doug blackwell and jeff ricklif for helping me with all the info about the dog. It dont hurt though wen you buy a state money leader with a NAT> ticket, then more people know the dog and can give you more info....

I do not sell many dogs and offer very few over the internet. But, if I wanted to sell dogs over the internet, I often carry my camcorder with me when I hunt and I could easily post some video clips of the dog's performance in the woods or brush. These video clips certainly don't show everything but can show enough for someone to decide to take it to the next step. It is a simple procedure to make and post a video clip and some fellow from say, Alabama, can hear and see my dog in action here in Illinois.

I have a clip of one of my beagles on the beagle board to use as an example if you guys want to check out what I am talking about. The beagle is NOT for sale, I am just using that clip as an example. I make clips of my coon dogs and squirrel dogs also.

I have bought and sold both on this site by word.....I have not had anybody swindle me yet. I'm a firm believer in trying before you buy, but it's not always easy to do so.

The ones I have bought were just as described. I just look at the person't past posts and do some research on them. I never bought a hound from anyone without a good reputatioon. If they screw you, they're screwed in the future. For now, it's worked but who knows. To every man his own.

i bought a dog from a man on this site, blaine stout, and i bought it on his word and so far the dog has been every thing he said.like others have said do some research on the dog and owner.i do prefer to hunt with or buy at the tree but its not always possible.blaine for example lives in iowa and i live in virginia, but his dog was just what i was looking for.i would do my homework ask questions, alot of questions and then make an educated descision.

i've bought puppies and young dogs. i won't buy another puppy because i'm too old to spend that much time on a dog and i don't like to odds of a pup turning out well. i prefer buying an older pup, like 6 month to 1 yr old. at least you can see if they have a good disposition and seem to be trainable.

I've bought two young dogs, one 4 mnths old and the other 9 wks old off here, so neither had been worked with. The 4 mnth, I sold a short time after I got him, hes turning into a nice dog been kickin myself in the a$$ lately for selling him. The one I got at 9 wks old is still here, and only 8 mnths old yet time will tell what she is.

Buying off the internet is no different than buying just over the phone.

I have bought one on the internet. I learned that what one guy considers a coon dog, started dog, competition ready dog may be totally different than what you do. I bought the dog on the mans word. I dont think the dog was hunted 10 times or so,worked on cage coon and sold when it started treeing with other dogs. All of the information I was told was not lies, but complete exaggeration of the truth. I bought the female in jan and she is finally doing what he said she would do and worth what I paid for her. I have a problem with believing people and thinking that everyone is truthful and honest. Most people selling dogs on here are far from that, they are doing it to make money and the quicker the dog sells the more money they make,so some will tell you whatever you want to hear. I would advise everyone to go hunt with the dogs for sale or take them on trial. If a man wont let a dog go on trial they most likely arent what they say they are anyways.

I bought a dog off a fellow on here, he let me take her home and try her out, but the dog was everything he said she was. I'm very happy with my purchase.

DON'T DO IT!!

We bought a Redbone off of this board on someone's word (this was almost a year ago). She was bred excellent, priced real high and we bought into the guy's sales pitch - hook, line and sinker! Well I can't begin to tell you how BAD we were lied to. We even called the guy back and told him she was badly misrepresented. Never once offered to take her back. Imagine that?!?!

Now we have had here almost a year and after alot of hard work and training she has made a nice coon dog. But she was not worth what we paid (not even close) and was never the dog he represented her to be.

And while I won't mention his name here I tell EVERYONE that asks about our redbones about what a liar he is. Point being - there are alot more DISHONEST people in this world than there are HONEST ones. Never buy without trying.

Sometimes............The risk is not worth the reward.

Ive sold some hounds over the years by my word, and have never gotten one back. I like to keep it that way buy telling the 100% truth what he can and cant do. If I sell a dog, I want to make sure he can tree a coon and the next guy is happy with him. On the other side I have traveled to buy a dog that was not near what he was suppose to be. LOL But thats the chance you take by buying and not trying.

I bought one from Jeff and was very pleased. He didn't hide anything.

How should I say this DONT DO IT !!! Yes there are some good guys but they are far and few between. What you think is a sorry dog some people think is a good dog so always go hunt the dog or dont but it. Now if you get to know a man and have bought dogs from him before and know how he deals it can be done but this does not happen much. Most of the guys that sell many dogs are just dog traders and are just trying to make a quick buck and after they get your money you got the dog good or bad and most of the time it will be bad.
