Guilty as Charged!!!!!

I did it,I did It,I did it.After priding myself and my dog for not being a part of the movement,I went today and got 8 lock lid 5gal buckets, spray painted them camo and drilled a hole in them and went and sat them out in pairs at the creeks of all my hunting spots, now to my defense I haven't filled them up yet(only because I couldn't make my mind up to what I wanted in them)and the reason is Gold Dust has been getting real deep lately,I don't know if they are getting use to my hunting times or what but I know he's been treeing them further away then he use to plus the little kits coons need a lil help this time of the year right!lol someone talk me out of it or tell me what to put in the buckets I was gonna put 200lb sweetcorn and 100lb cheapest dog food I can find and put in a barrel and pour 2gal of Vanilla extract on it and a lil bit of water and mix it and put it out.

cheap dog food is the best. i put a 1 1/4 inch nipple on my buckets mostly to help keep water out. fed corn for a long time and had coons but nothing as consistant and the dog food is easier to deal with. jmo

just put dogfood. i tried 2 old tires full of sweet corn with 5 lbs of sugar and pack of grape koolaid on each one. haven't had a coon touch them in 4 weeks. they are emptying my dogfood buckets pretty quick.

Dads dog food or some other cheap food from the grocery store. I used Dads the last two times and I think they ate it as fast as I put it in the bucket.

Find a local farmer and ask him if you can have some spoiled corn out of the silage or spoil pile. Generally, when you tell them what it for they are more than happy to accomodate. It will be free and coons love sour mash!!

Cheap dog food works the best for buckets. I put a scoop of fish meal in with the feed and mix it up. Works good.

I have 3 feeders out,

down on my kids ground, 2 tube feeders & 1 bucket feeder. I have been using shelled corn, which is around $4.00 for a 50 lb. bag & bought a gallon of blackstrap molasses at Rural King, for a little over $6.00. I put some corn in the feeder then pour some molasses on the corn, then some more corn & then some more molasses until I get the feeder filled up, & they love it.

Would go with sweet feed. It is as cheap as any dog food you will buy and it works a lot better.

Feeders

I use rack master golden nuggets. This has a berry smell to it and the coons love it. I also put out gallon buckets of peanut butter and corn stirred together. We get peanut butter for $100 for 500 pounds.

Went yesterday and bought 120lbs of dog food at the local Dollar General for $3.50 per 15lb bag,4pts of vanilla extract and 40 packs of grape kool aid mixed it together and put it out, once the action starts I'll set up trail cam and see what's up.

hmmmmm!!!

Went and checked yesterday NO ACTION yet.

Posted by SCElite on 04-01-2009 09:16 AM:

Throw some fishmeal around your new feeder buckets and in the creek to carry down stream. This will help them find it a little faster.

Corn and coon potion for me. I can't use dog food because I am using old gear oil buckets and the coons pulled the pour spout out the first week so when I tried dog food it got wet and clogged up.

I GOT ACTION!!!went and checked after work got action on 6 out of 8 feeders, still want hunt them yet ima give them about a week then its head for trees!!!

Posted by HOBO on 04-02-2009 02:11 AM:

If they are hitting them you might as well hunt them....

If your using 5 gallon buckets they will empty them in about 4 nights if you have very many coon hitting them.

I guess different areas, the coon like different things. I put out 2 coon potions near 2 of my corn buckets...The coon havn't even sniffed on the potions(I have game cameras out also). The coons love the corn after its been in the buckets a few days in water. I've been hunting on buckets when I need a quick hour hunt or when I have kids with me that I want 2 keep excited...Seems like a win/win situation if your still working or have children or cant walk too far(Although she went 1/2 mile a few nights ago after striking near a feeder bucket.
