GA Hunters please read
I talked to my state rep. last night at a wild game supper and he told me he was working on a bill to open wildlife management areas year round for training and it should go in front of the house next session. If you are for this let your state rep. and senators know. I thought this was great because private land is getting hard to find in some places.
Dang we sure do need it BAD!!!!!! First I've heard of it..We need to get the ga federation of coon hunters in on it..They may already know but I've saw nothing outta them about it..When is the house next session?

I'm pretty sure they know. I think that was one of the things Sam told me they were going to push for a while back.

Yes we are aware of it and are working on it. Thanks for posting it so all GA hunters can get involved and contact their local representatives and tell them you want this. That is how you get them to vote - if no one contacts them then they think none of their consitituants care. Let them know this is something you want and ask them to vote in your favor.
Anytime you hear of anything that you think we need to know about please let us know. Never know - it may be one of those things they are trying to keep under the radar that we may not know about.
Thanks! Priscilla

We will be adding it to the website soon. It is going to require a whole new page, etc that is costly, etc. It is going to be done soon though I promise. In the meantime you can visit the Georgia Hunting and Fishing Federation Site for updates. I will get it on our site as soon as possible.
Thanks! Priscilla

I hunt both ga and ala. Wasn't aware that you couldn't hunt management areas year round ( train ) here in alabama there are management areas that can be hunted year round. Now of course you have to abide by kill seasons

The bill we are trying to work with GHFF on will include all dog training squirell, rabitt, birds, coon, etc.... This is really in the begining stages but we have been pushing for this as well as opening the roads for small game hunters as well.
We have to crawl before we walk ,and walk before we run, BUT if we keep trying to come together it will keep getting better. Go to the website, join ,help us with the fight. It was pointed out to us at the capital recently that there are 1000 plus coonhunters in Ga. The next ??? was why are there only 120 or so in your federation??? These guys deal with numbers and votes guys that's it. We can't do it alone. Join in the fight for your hunting rights. If you don't think it is a fight then you will be telling your kids and grandkids about something called hunting, that you used to do!!!!!!

I am not a pro yet on how the process all plays out. It is still in the "legal Language writting" stage as of my last update. Once the legal boys get through with it. I beleive it will be sponsord and assigned a number. Then the process of going through begins. We will be posting updates on the website as we can. Keep with us this is a long and teadious process.

NEW NEWS
Crawford county,Ga. is now trying to pass a leash law that will require ALL dogs to be on a leash,I believe that will infringe on our right to free cast our hounds.I live and hunt in this county.I don,t have the county commisioners number yet nut I will post it later today
Not an expert either, but saw where one day last week was "cross over day" or the day by which a bill needs to move from the house that passed it to the other house for consideration, or it more than likely won't be considered that session. Based on that, it appears this is something that will be awhile coming.
If those of you closer to the progress of this will post here and at PKC's site when it gets closer to consideration, we should concentrate our calls/ e-mails / letters right around that time. IMO

If I remember right when the Federation started it was done through the Clubs and not on an individual basis. If done this way the membership numbers would be a lot greater and like Samh posted any bill would have a better chance for a favorable vote. How did the membership get changed from clubs to individuals? Seems to me it needs to go back to the clubs if numbers will make a difference, and believe me they will.
quote:Stanley i agree whloe hearted. As a new Federartion board member from the southeast, my co-heart, Jamie newton and myself plan to contact each club in our zone, be it UKC, PKC, AKC, or otherwise, to try and get our numbers up. Although it is almost impossible to get to each club in person, we do plan to attend some club meeting, hunts, etc.. There is no doubt, that if our numbers do not rise, our voices will be mere whispers in our law makers chambers. It should be the goal of every coonhunter in Georgia to join, and make this a strong and viable organization. No matter how hard the leadership works for change, or for better laws, our weight is not there with only 120 members state wide. Along with the Hunting and Fishing Federation, changes can be made. Our voices can be heard. Our law makers, for the most part are on our side, but they need to see numbers. Please help us help you by speaking up at your club meetings and get the folks to join. You may contact any officer of the federation, or me personally for information on how to join. thank you for your concern.

How did the membership get changed from clubs to individuals?(quote)
This was voted on by the members and changed. I keep hearing this out of some folks and am courious as to why you would want to go back to something that didn't work.
I just finished speaking with R Dickey and the HB 402 didnot make it out of comittee. So that is dead till next year.
The dog training on WMA's is still being handled through regulation so there will be no bill at least not this year. With that being said you need to be calling your Rep and Senator and tell them you would like there help with getting DNR to reopen the training seasons that we lost in 2000 & 01.
ANYONE in 7th district Dawson, Fanninn, and Gilmer counties please call your rep and make sure they support the Outdoor billboard bill. we need to ring your folks phones and let them know we need them to help us on these items.

SAMH, Undoubtedly it 's not working now. I just think that if clubs joined that you would have all of their membership listed as members of the federation. I have not been a member of a club for a number of years and that is my choice. Ninety % of the hunts that I attend now are PKC hunts. I have not heard anyone discuss the federation at any of these hunts, but it would be nice for the federation to be active with all KC's. Thank you and all members of the federation for your effort .
Sam,What is the outdoor billboard bill?

Stanley,
Jay Boswell and Stephen Smith are directors now an will be working on that. An its been 19 yrs the Federation Lay Dormat until people wanted to try and make a go of it. We want the clubs as well as the individuals. But if you really want to discuss it then call me 706-326-7297. If that don't work then come to the state hunt and join and be heard as they are open to ideas but they are headed in the right direction and old saying you and I have heard many times 'Rome wasnt built in a day'. Gotta go hunting but look forward to hearing from you!

That has to be brought up and voted on by the members. We can not change in mid stream. You are welcome to bring that up at the next meeting if you feel that will better serve our needs.
