17 Hmr

DOES ANYBODY USE THIS CAL. TO SHOOT COONS WITH, AND IF SO HOW DO U LIKE IT..

it's a bad little round, just don't shoot ballistic tips, they blow up into a hundred little pieces when they hit bc of the velocity. Use a good ol' jacketed lead bullet. knocks a coon out just as good or better than a .22. They are just a little loud.

NOISE SHOULDN'T BE A PROB. IM GOING TO TRY OUT THE TRACKER PISTOL BY TAURUS, I GUESS ILL FIND OUT.

it a great round.
i would try both hollow point from CCI and hornady polymer tips. hornady makes a 17 gr poly tip and a 20 gr. hollow point. both have worked great for me but i prefer the 20 gr. out of my savage.

I would imagine a 17 could be too much for a coon. It might rip a good hole in the hide. I knocked em out with a 22mag for a while, but it was too much too.

Now if I lived in Iowa or Wisconsin and had a chance to bust a 30 pounder, I might pack a little extra heat! around here a biggun weighs about 15 or so.

I HEARD OF A LOT OF PEOPLE WHO LOVE THE 17 CAL ROUND. I JUST GOT THE TRACKER PISTOL AND I AM GOING TO GIVE IT A SHOT. I WENT TO TWO DIFFERNT HUNTING STORES IN MY AREA TODAY LOOKING AT AMMO, GANDER MT HAD HORNADY 17 FOR 19.99 AND 5 MILES DOWN THE ROAD A LOCAL HUNTING STORE HAD THE SAME SHELLS FOR 12.99, GANDER MT IS STARTING TO MAKE ME MAD WITH THOSE AMMO PRICES.

I used a 17 hmr once and it did to much fur damage for me. I hear what you're saying about Gander. They must want to end up like the auto manufactures and price themselves out of business.
