Ivomec----Ivermectin

Ivomec----Ivermectin 1% Sterile Solution, The kind you use with a needle.

What kind of worms does It kill ? do you have to have your hound tested for heart worms ?

Recomended to give by mouth.

Worms

It's supposed to kill everything but tapes and the Safeguard Goat
Wormer gets everything that's what I use...it contains Ivomec also.... if I'm not mistaken.

Safeguard does not contain ivermectin.... the active ingredient in safeguard is fenbendazole.

As long as it's 10% solution it is the same. I usually use the 125 ml. bottle. I have used the 1000 ml bottle, but it will cost you $100.

It's prevents heartworms and kills tapes doesn't it? The safeguard
goat wormer.

What about this ? It's for cattle and Swine.

Ivomec will not kill an adult heartworm, It will only kill the larve,
I learned this the hard way, as my five year old hound is going through heartworm treatment right now, and she has been on 1/2 CC of Ivomec once a month for the last four years.
Ivomec is a good preventative, but not a cure.
The vet said my dog had heartworms when I got her. I wish I had had her checked.
Oh and I found out that an adult heartworm has of lifespan of six to eight years.

works on hounds too, but I heard it will kill herding types of dogs. Don't know if it's true or not but that's what I heard. Use it on my dogs every month.

Ivermectin is not effective against hookworms or tapeworms. It will get other intestinal parasites at the 1/10 cc per 10 pounds (5mg per 50 pounds). Another thing I found interesting is at this dose it is only 69% effective against roundworms if injected, but goes up to 95% effective when give orally. I choose to use ivermectin for heartworm prevention only as there are other wormers more suitable for intestinal parasites in dogs.

Has no effect on heartworms and kills only a couple of types of tapes. The most common type of tapes in dogs is the flea born variety and it will not get them. I only worm for tapes on an as needed basis. They are easy to see in the stool and my dogs rarely get them. Praziquantel is the best thing to use on tapes.

I give the dogs a 1cc of Ivomec a month orally and 2-3 cc of goat wormer and I also put Bayer Tree and Shrub on their back for fleas and ticks I believe the active ingredient in it is Imiditrol. It has the same active ingredient as Advantage but in a lower dose.

That amount of ivermectin will kill most parasites with the exception of hookworms and tapeworms. However, your not doing any good with that dose of safeguard. The proper dose of safeguard goat wormer is 1.1 cc per 5 pounds given orally for 3 consecutive days. That would be 11 cc for a 50 pound dog. I only use the safeguard once every 3 months.
