When I wanted to start showing I went and watched a couple of shows. Then I got a bench and started practicing. Now that I've gotten some really nice dogs I practice gaiting them and stacking almost everyday. It takes lots of patience and training to get them to stay stacked and still!!!!!!!!!! Good luck.

It takes a lot of practice, your dogs may feel uncomfortable at first but practice with them every day. Even if it's for only five minutes it will help. When you set them up, make sure the front legs are straight and under the dog, the back legs need set back but not so far they are post legged. Pinch up under their chest and hold their head up. It's not too hard.
When gaiting the dog I usually use a small choke chain/show lead. Make sure it is high on the neck and snug under their jaw, this will make the dog walk a little better. Also walk at a pace that makes the dog kinda trot....Good Luck!

First thing I would do is not take any advice about showing dogs from me lol.
Go to the next event, and ask around for a guy named Dave and his wife Joanne. They have redbones and know they're stuff about showing. Dave is a licensed bench show judge. They've both shown me a few good tricks, and will be more than happy to help you out. Real good people, watch them and you'll pick it up.

It is good to go to some shows to see how it's done then you can ask some of the handlers how they like to do it and have them show you some things....
