Question??

If a male dog is fixed can they or will they put off some type of scent that would interest another male dog?? I hunted in Redbone Days last night and we had a fixed Redbone on our cast and I ask the owner did he have cancer or something and he said no just knew he wasn't going to breed him so my other guess is well you all know what I am thinking. He had him fixed because he was ill. I was so upset with my Zero dog last night I pulled him out of the hunt. I was tied for first in the cast setting at -50 with a little over a hr left in the hunt. But on the first drop all dogs strike and Zero hits up right there in front of us but never fully commits so I say nothing. The other Walker dog does the same. Neither ever commits the fixed Redbone comes in there and half butt trees and the guy sticks him on the paper. Well the five is up and the last time I had heard Zero was to my right. Well we walk in there to shine the tree and the Judge says there is a Walker dog in here too. Man what I am about to tell you blew me away. Zero was standing there smelling that male dogs butt like a female in heat, ears laid back and all. Needless to say he tried to get at the dog all night till I had,had enough. This is not like my dog I am not making excuses but he don't do that. I ask the guy has he been around a female in heat and he said no but that story changed after I withdrew. Come to think of it he says is my brother in law's female is in and he has been around her. I noticed the Judges dog smelling this same dog as we came out of the woods after I had withdrew. Man this was something different for me to deal with and I didn't too well. LOL!! Other than that we hunted super nice places and had a great cast. Coons were not moving at all. The only coon scored I think was a lay up around a feeder. But if any of you have ever had this happen please enlighten me. I was so upset with Zero because he had been doing so well coming into this hunt. Oh well like we say he is just a DOG!!!!!!!! Oh last but not least Pastor Mike on this here board was the Judge and he is a Super Nice guy and has a nice Red dog. Hopefully he got the win for I jetted because I had a two hr. ride and they only had 30 mins. to hunt. Thanks for listening to my whining. LOL!!!!!

I feel for you but keep in mind that there will be other hunts. It sounds like the dog was carrying the scent of the female in heat from being kenneled beside or possible with the female.

I lost a cast one night because one male out of three was trying to ride my female. I was agravated but the males owner (once he had settled down) was dismayed over his dogs actions.

I don't believe neutering a dog causes them to give off any different kind of scent and I also don't believe a neutered dog should be assumed to have been rough. Heck, if you live in Loiusville, Ky, you are REQUIRED to neuter your dogs.

I've heard tell of males doing that to a neutered male. We had a neutered male a couple years back, never had any problems with dogs bothering him.

Jim I never said the dog was rough never heard a off bark from him, but what I was saying is I have heard of folk doing that to a rough dog. Ok Sir.

That led me to believe you were thinking they neuter them because they are all rough. Sorry I misunderstood.

Yeah Gayle both Redbones were nice looking hounds. LOL!!! But Zero got a little attitude adjustment once I got back to the truck. But I was not too bad on him thinking we the guy said he had the dog in with a female in heat. But I was also thinking isn't that interference as well?? Oh well life goes on and Jim I understand what you are saying too. No big deal it really just embarassed me is all. LOL!!!! Hope my dog wasn't trying to tell me something or coming out of the closet. LMFBO!!!!!!!! OMG

i do believe they have a differant scent i have seen this quite a bit not only in dogs but farm animals also.
i worked for a vetinarian a while ago that boarded stud horses for breeding outside mares one of these stallions would go nuts if you put a gelding in the next stall but never fussed with another stallion stalled next to him
