How is the economy

Affecting: You: as far as... 1. Do you attend as many local hound events as you used, to? 2. Have you had to down-size the # of hounds you have? 3. Do any of you feel you've had to switch to a different brand of feed with prices so high? 4. Do you feel stud fees, or prices you would sell your pups at, have to be adjusted? Any opinion: any answer, to one or all the above... Thanks..

Not going to one this weekend because of the expense.
Have cut my number of beagles down.
This has allowed me to continue with the same feed.
Will see how the puppy prices go...

It is apparent we are in a recession. I have seen puppy prices plummet, dog food increase, number of events decrease. Its horrible I had a litter a while back and made maybe 150 after everything.

Posted by Wingman66 on 02-20-2009 01:59 AM:

Floor traffic has picked up some, but still just small stuff. NO houses being built, realtors sitting still. Rental property is about the only thing going and its just a room here and there. Dec was by far the worst I've seen in awhile. Its scary sitting in a store for 9 hours and not one single person come in the door.

Make hunts usually about 8 a year. Cut back have'nt been to one since last spring.

I've downsized. Lost 4 and replaced one. Still hunt 3.

Still feed Purina.

No breeding at all.

I still have the same number of dogs; I feed the same food; in fact nothing has changed except that I am driving more since gas went down.

I find it silly to waste energy worrying about things I can't change. When I was a kid i developed health issues due to a bad diet. My father was out of work.

My children have a good diet and they are healthy. That is were my energeries will go.

Nothing really changed for me other than listening to all the news media cry and whine about how bad things are every minute of every day. They can take my money, property, and bank notes but nobody can take my faith and thats all that really matters.

bad in some places other places everything is normal.

problem is...the news media is a bunch of alarmists that want you to believe no matter where you are the world is coming to an end.
and if you"re not suffering like the ones they show on t.v. then you should be ashamed of yourself and feel guilty.

stop watching the news..........

Not much has changed for Frances Gail and I. We plan to attend as many coon, squirrel, and beagle hunts as we have in the past. We have cut back on our pup raising but because of our age and health, not the economy. We have found out quality always sells.
We worked hard and saved. We always paid for stuff when we bought it. If we couldn't do it that way, we didn't need it. The economy doesn't bother us. We could "hunker down" if we needed to but we live a fairly frugal lifestyle any way. Our dogs have always paid for themselves.

economy

pups are killing me with food prices and they keep going up. i have 4 well bred ones that need to go somewhere. if it stays like this around here, we will probably see a major decrease in hunt participations, and that is very low now.

when I don't watch the news things are alot more normal. If you listen to them each night they seem to depress people. My job is slow but we make parts for the big 3 auto and everybody knows how good they are doing!!LOL. Good luck to everyone in the slower times but we will get through them. Trust the good Lord he will help you in bad times but then again he will help you in good times too!!

I dont go to hunts anymore, Have picked up one extra hound, just hunt locally. Dont plan to buy or sell any pups, just too much trouble. but all in all the economy sucks, and I hope the Gas dosnt go up too much. Still buying the same brand of feed, but a little cheaper grade. The Kind I was buying went from 16 dollars a bag to 24, thats too much of a price hike.

We are still going full steam here. Some businesses are laying off folks. Jobs are still to be had though if you look. I think we hired 35 workers last week alone.

As for the hunting. The local buddy hunts that cost $20/ea to enter for a chance at the $$ pot have been BOOMING.

I don't know anyone who has downsized their kennels due to the economy.

Why all the "doom and gloom"..I thought this administration was all about , "hope and change"?? LOL!!

Have you ever noticed that when GW mentioned something positive about the economy he was branded a "liar", but when Obama spoke of hope and change and the soundness of F-Mae and F-Mac, nothing was ever said when he was proven wrong.

gas has...

stayed between 1.81 & 1.89; (here) but, it had dropped close to 1.50 a little over a month ago.. I'm not the only one planning a big garden this year: bought a tiller and now, just waiting for spring to get here.. I noticed on the news (here) that even Uof I hospitals have a hiring freeze, on, and a hospital near Waterloo/Cedar Falls: the same thing.. While waiting for the Daytona 500, I don't think they even filled all the seats.. But as far as the dogs, we bred a redbone female last summer: she had 7 pups, and we wound up giving all of them away.. We won't be doing any breeding for a while to come, either...

I hope he can clean it up. The greatest economic recovery of our time was in the early 80's with Reagan. So far, Obama's economic strategies have been the total opposite of Reagan's. I'm not sure what results he is expecting, but I'm afraid I know what he is going to get. I guess we can wait and see.

Would you be too good to pluck chickens if you didn't have a job?
