Anyone heard about Purina Hi-Pro?

I work at a Tractor Supply store and was told today that once we sell our current inventory of Hi-Pro we won't be getting anymore. Purina is pulling it and it's going to Purina dealers only. This is supposed to happen in all retail stores. Don't know the whole story yet though.

I fead Purina 20 years....I recently started feeding Southern States new line....I use the "SPORT". Its a much better product than Purina Hi Pro and a 25 pound beagle only has to get 1 and 1/2 cup...Very little and tight stool. Try this feed, you'll be glad you did. After Purina stuck it to us with smaller bags the stuck it in deeper with a big price hike, I now longer support them. The Southern States feed is $14 and its good stuff....

that stinks, i have been feeding it for a couple of years now, and really liked it, looks like i will be switching to dog chow or something along that line. thanks for the info.

i feed it and love it. i always feed purina until i tried retriever and as long as i can get it i will stick with it. my black look great on it with nice shinny coats.

I just got off the phone with purina, they told me they're going to quit making HI-PRO. Dang that's the only food i can get around here that's any good. they're are supposed to send me some coupons for some other dog food. this sucks.

hi pro down here went from 21.99 to 27.99 in less than six months. needless to say I switched to diamond and have been satisfied so far.

Just bought some last week for like 23.99. Just started feeding hi pro. Like bartlett better though it is cheaper and a good feed. Kept my foxhounds that got run everyday looking sharp always looked good no matter if Ijust got em kenneled or on their day off Sunday.

Retriver is made by Purina exclusively for TSC. I have had quite a few hunters switch over to it with great results. Plus they're adding a five pound bonus right now. 55lbs for $19.99.

Had'nt heard that they were completely pulling Hi-Pro. My purina rep said they were just pulling it out of all retail stores and it would still be available at Purina Dealers only. I'll call them again tommorrow. Thanks for the info.

I was at one of larger retail stores here in michigan yesterday and they had Purina Kibbles and chunks clearanced out also reg 19.99 was 9.49 for 37.5 lbs and they had no Hi Pro on the shelves . Only Dog Chow

Here we feed three different kind of Purina...Pro Plan Sensitive Diet, Dog Chow and Puppy Chow to the Beagle pups. There are so, so many different formulas of Purina Feed Products. Is it really necessary while so folks are trying to cut corners, not because they want to, but out of necessity. Getting the most and the best for their money is the key for most folks in these times. So many are shopping around.
Maybe, just maybe, Purina is feeling the pinch of the economy also and is trying to do some restructuring to keep their bottom line up. This possibly could include getting rid of some formulas for now. Even though some may not agree on which ones would or should be pulled. I bet if this is the case, they have studied it hard with their own numbers on what needs to go....

This is only a thought...For what ever it's worth...

I WAS AT SAMS CLUB YESTERDAY AND THEY HAVE NOT HAD DOG CHOW OR HI PRO FOR OVER A MONTH. I TALKED TO THE MANAGER ABOUT THIS AND HE SAID PURINA HAD RAISED THERE PRICE TO THEM AND THEY COULD NOT BE COMPETIVE WITH OTHER STORES IN THE AREA. THEY WILL NO LONGER CARRY IT. HE SAID THEY HAVE 821 STORES THAT WILL DO THE SAME. LOOKS LIKE A BIG LOST TO PURINA THAT I DON'T UNDERSTAND. THEY HAVE RAISED THE PRICE SEVERAL TIMES IN THE LAST 8 MONTHS. PURINA TOLD ME THAT IT WAS THE PRICE OF DESIEL FUEL TO DELIVER AND THE PRICE OF CORN. WHATS THERE ANSWER NOW DESIEL FUEL IS HALF OF WHAT IT WAS AND CORN IS DOWN TO $3.50 A BUSHEL FRO M $8.00 . I BELONG TO PURINA PRO PLAN PROGRAM BUT I WILL LOOK ELSWERE FOR MY DOG FEED TIL PURNIA COMES TO THERE SENSES. We have bought Purina Dog Chow through Sams club now for three years. Unfortunately, due to so many large kennels in our area those people are coming on delivery day and buying every pallet. So we started mixing Hi-Pro with the Dog Chow. Was there four days ago and there was, once again, no Dog Chow and only two bags of Hi-Pro left.
It was $21.18 for 50 pounds. The Dog Chow is $21.88 for 55 pounds. They said a new shipment was due by the end of the week and did not mention not selling it anymore?

I see at Tractor SUpply its $27 for 50 pounds of hi pro. Glad I switched to Southern States new food. Its $14 per 40 pounds and very good feed. They also have a pet food program...just easier to use than purinas.

I am a member of the PRO CLUB also,been buying my feed at petsmart they went from 24.95 to 27.95 so I have went to another feed myself.It seems to me with all people that is changeing they will be loseing even more money.

They're not losin money!! Theyre weeding out the 50# bag buyers. They want to sell 35# bags of super premium . All the profit is in those smaller bags with outrageous prices.

Sams club here in northern ohio has done the same thing with the purina products, once its gone, its gone!!! Tractor supply will keep dog chow and pro plan (at outrageous prices) But said hi-pro has been AXED! I've been using the purina and the pro club for about 5 years and I am now shopping dog foods again!! This really stinks. I was talking to a buddy yesterday and we came to the conclusion that purina has retooled there marketing scheme, No longer selling mass amounts of feed but selling smaller poundages at the same prices or more, Thus gearing them more towards the everyday dog owner and not the hunting population!! I think within a couple years they will no longer be helping to sponsor coonhound events!!!

DISCONTINUED !!!

I emailed purina last week when i went to sams and purchased the last bag they had. They responded the next day and told me that with very much consideration they had decided to discontinue hi-pro on feb. the first of 2009. I had already switched some of my dogs to pro plan but really couldnt afford it for all so i still fed hi-pro to the rest. Purina apoligized several times, encouraged me to use pro plan or purina one and are sended me a bunch of rebate coupons to help. I really like purina but the price makes it hard not to look at another brand for a replacement. I am looking in to getting joy dog food in my area now.

im very disappointed at the way Purina is doing. went to Sams yesterday and no Dog Chow. had to buy Walmart brand. will not pay more for smaller bags. will feed cheaper dog food.
