the gps will set the number on the collar for you. they don't have fixed numbers like the beep beeps. I have one collar that will say near when it is next to you and the other will say 10 yards like yours. just make sure you tighten up your collar when you put it on your dog and you should be alright. take a deep breath and go through it again, they are really nice to have around.

are you using the dc20 or the dc30? mine is the dc20, they say it is a piece of junk but it works pretty good to me.

The DC 30 Collar is nylon and has a cable antenna. I never worry if the dog is only a few feet away and it says its 15 yds. I have guys that claim the same on there shots they took. LOL Use the map page and forget the compass page and you will love it. Also the trick is to find the proper zoom level to really give you a good view of where your dog is. It is a learning curve and you can always factory reset and start over if you screw things up.
Note: I had a collar that would only allow one unit to pic it up at a time. What we did was change the collar number to within 10 of the other collar and now all the units pic up the collars. Don't ask me why but it works.

I think within 10 yards is pretty darn amazing when you consider that your position is being determined by a method of triangulation from signals received from multiple satellites orbiting above the earth all recorded and calculated by that little unit in your hand. Everyday thousands of passengers are sitting in airplanes guided by a GPS very similar to what's in your hand. And I know that the pilots of those airplanes would rather bet those lives on GPS than some silly old magnetic compass that bounces and spins like a nut when you need it the most.
It wasn't very long ago when the error was much greater. Keep in mind that GPS was developed by the DOD for pure military applications and at the time they didn't want some terrorist nation using GPS to guide a missle to the Pentagon or your house so they built in a signal error to prevent that from happening. Most of that error is now gone so that us civilians can track their dogs and do all sorts of useful things with GPS.
Enjoy it. It took a billion dollars to develop GPS technology to get it to the point we now have it.
english,
your right that thing is a piece of crap
I'll do you a favor and take it off your hands, heck I'll even give you $200 for it...LOL

Ok.. I just got mine two days ago and i tried to use it lastnight.. I was alittle scared of it so i put my regular wildlife collar on with the DC-30 collar. The problem I am having is I keep loosing gps singal between the collar and the handheld... do you think the wildlife collar may be messin the gps signal up... im confused can someone help me figure this out before i end up taken it back...
Make sure your antenna on the hand held is screwed in good, and make sure your GPS on the collar is pointing up (little square thing on the collar)
I have had mine lose signal when I put her in the dog box. After this happened I had to reset the collar for it to pick it back up again.
Next time I moved I just turned the unit off before I put her in the box, and turned it back on after I got her out. No problem.
I have ran mine with my Quick Track collars just to be sure and haven't had any problems with either one interfering. I guess it could be possible if they are close in frequency, but the garmins are 152-155.
Have you noticed that it loses when you put them in and out of the box? If that is the case just turn it off before you put them in the box, and if it has "lost signal" and won't find it just reset the collar before you turn loose and it should be OK.

Has anyone thought about how these collars are going to work at the hunts now that there are so many out there. as there is going to be collars interfering with other collars and the other guy can change your collar ID number then you can't track anymore..

Someone else cant change your collar ID. You add collars by touching the unit to the collar if that collar # is similar to one already one your unit it will allow you change the number so that there is no interference. It doesnt matter if you have a pile of 50 units only the ones that you have on your hand held unit will show and the others will not interfere they dont even exist to your unit.
