i myself like the older blood because most breeds today have to much tree bred into them for the comp hunts .........but i am hunting a dog off of Rattattack now wich i guess is new blood. and he has lots of track and tree to him but just enough like i like

Its hard to go straight old school these days but everything I own goes back to clover and lipper with enough of todays tree power in there to make them good tree dogs its not really about new or old being better its about responsible breeders who are breeding for balanced tracking and treeing hounds instead of breeding for the fancy papers and 140 bark a min quick treeing dogs that couldnt work a track in a coon pen if the dogs are good about going hunting hard and having the coon most of the time i dont care to much about the bloodlines I am just happy with what i have and they are heavy lipper and clover breeding

Have to agree with Hobo. Although most (including myself) can get caught up in the "hype" about having a pup out of "the next big stud dog". I always seem to go back to the "old school' hound with greater results. I have had greater success with locally bred, "old school" hounds than anything else. jmo, wd.

Bill,

Do you have any semen stored on your Joe sr. dog. I really like the heavy house breeding in him. I have a double Coma female that is 2 1/2 I tried to breed to an older dog in Dec. but I think he is sterile as she is not bred. I am looking for possible replacement stud as I plan on taking him to the vet this week to be sure if he is sterile or not.

I like the old school House's blood. House's TOM TOM, House's Clint, House's Lipper.

Posted by Todd Hamilton on 02-18-2009 04:10 PM:

I have hunted back in the day of owning a tremendous hound with House's Chief showing up on his 3 generation pedigree twice. Located between him now with BoJangles there have been other great dogs. None of these hounds would be here for us if it wasn't for all of us working together continuing to improve the breed. It still comes down to personel preference, territory, personal looks. All in all....coonhounds are better today.

Old Blood? Ya'll act like Lipper and Clover is old blood. Hell, most all the advertised studs double back to lipper and clover both on the fourth generation.

Posted by joseph mcdonald on 02-21-2009 12:57 AM:

I also like the old blood. I have Rat attack and Sackett JR. back on my dogs second generation. Man thats old school, but it works for me!

I'm still a youngn'

but it tickles me to death when someone my age and younger talks about the old blood. Most of them are talking after other people who actually had the pleasure of hunting with the older stuff and are repeating what they heard. I'm 31 and can't give you an honest answer because I haven't got to hunt with a lot of the older stuff. My personal opinion is that a lot of people try to train the new strain of dogs like they did the old strain and a lot turn into slick treeing idiots. I do remember when I was a teenager that I would have been tickle to death just find a dog that would stay treed until I made it to the tree. SO, I guess if I had a chance to choose I would stay with the new stuff with a dab of the old stuff. But, everyone has there own style of dog and that is find because they are alot of different ways to go with the walker hounds, and you should choose what suits you. To me, if they wan't tree they ain't going to do much good for you whether it be pleasure hunting or competition hunting. Sorry for rattling on so much, just bored because I can't hunt. There will be a lot of different views on this subject though. lol. Tim

Laverne Miller

Anybody had a chance to hunt anything out of Miller's Little Joker? That boy reproduced some tree dogs .

old joe wasnt produceing enough semen when i took him to be collected ,they said it would be waste of money with sperm count too low for freezing,,,i have 2 males blaze and joe jr.(hawk2) littermates,,jr throws the blanket back and large heads like his dad/grandad ,blaze has some pups off a linebred jet bluetick female ,they are openspoted compact like him...bred blaze to a walker female but didnt know that little brothers coppernose bulldog had snuck accross the road and plugged the well before blaze bred her,,she had 7 of the preetyest copper puppys..

there is a male still around here from old joe x grace (cash/double lipper) but he hasn't been bred to anything yet,his ped is on my webpage,,i called him "trouble"
