(Survey)---Puppy / Young Dog Prices
A close friend and I were talking about the prices of pups and young dogs. In order to prove my point I need some statistical data. If you would please post a reply in the similar form of the example I have given it would be appreciated.
Case: You currently own a six month old puppy. The puppy is any breed of your choice and is UKC Performance paid up and PKC registered (Not SS or futurity eligible). This puppy is a female puppy that is bred very well, not all grand but lots of nite champions and grand nite champions. You have spent numerous hours teaching this puppy to mind, lead, load and handle. This puppy has taken numerous rides in the dog box getting it used to riding. It has never seen a coon but has treed hot dogs in the backyard and seems very gamey and level headed. It’s a well built puppy and colored up very nice.
Questions:
1. If you owned this pup and someone was inquiring about buying this pup, what would you price it for?
2. If you were in the market for a pup to start, what would you be willing to pay for the one described above?
Example Answer:
1. I would price it at $350
2. I would be willing to pay $300

Justin,
I would not buy a pup that had been taught to tree hot dogs....
Just my .02.....
Other than that...the pup is well worth whatever someone is willing to pay for it. I would never price one at six months old for less than $400.00.....

I would consider this a "project dog"
Most of the time Someone either screwed it up or dosent like it for whatever reason...IMO its worth less to me than a 6 week old pup, most likely nothing.

What was meant by the hot dog part is--- say it was barking at hot dogs hung above it's head on a branch as a weaning size puppy.
It was not meant in the desctiption that the dog was six months old and still treeing hot dogs.
I just wanted to add it had tree sense at a young age.
I should have worded my sentense better.
A buddy and I were talking prices and drummed this up betting what the market would be willing to pay for a pup like this.
One side said $100-150 the other side said $250-350

I have never sold a 6 month old pup but I have sold several at 12-14 months old that meets the basic desription above and I priced and sold all of them around $200.00. I guess I should also mention that when I decide to move a pup, I want it to move now.

I like hotdogs and i often get hungry while out hunting, hotdogs are also worth more than coon hides this year. I will give 500 bucks for a good hotdog hound.
I would be willing to pay about $300 for the pup at either 8 weeks or 6 months no more. The pup could still turn out to be useless. Also if this pup is so well bred and has such a good pedigree, why hasn't it sold before 6 months old? I would probably be asking in the neighborhood of $300 for it as well.

I have often wondered about those 6 month old pups in the classifieds for sale at puppy price, must be the guy who has them has seen something he doesnt like, why else pay 300 for a good bred pup, raise it, feed it,keep it healthy for 6 months and then sell it for 300.
any puppy....
or hound, are only worth what someone is willing to pay for it. might keep that in mind also. six months and handled? is same price as one who hasn't been. again..."depends on buyer and their need"...price higher and you can always come down. this pup would be nice for starting later in the spring and just right for fall. depends if competition hunting, and or pleasure, or both.

joe i dont agree with you on the hot dog ...what your teaching a puppy is to bark up a tree and when you get there it is reward for barking treed.. this method has been used for years by a lot of people .any dog can tree..... some not as good as others but all dogs can tree .. why did you use a coon in a cage for your hound ?? why turn a coon loose for youe hound ??? it is and will be a part of training.. sure some are just born running and treeing coon with no help other then dum luck. but all the rest need a little help knowing what it is they need to do to please us.

i guess i was taught differnt than most.i like raisen my own
pups and if he didnt suit me why should he suit you so the
cost would be FREE.
Depending on breed
If say this gyp was out of Dancers Son and a Bodacious Female I would have to price her upwards of 500. Thats just cause i am a bluetick man. But just a well bred female I beleive anywhere between 300 and 450 is reasonable.

I would say 300.00 would be what I would ask for.
not to take away anything on this post
but how many of you fine folks who gave your opion are going to inquire about this young female Handling is an important part of having a special hound but sire ask your self these questions then price your female honestly and accordingly does she have what it takes to make a good hound, why am I selling her,can I ask someone to put more time in two a dog I am selling and not going to put more time in, and is she a female that has it but has not been given a chance or is she a late bloomer that just has not shown interest yet that may later, we all want pups that start quick and make exactly what we are looking for a good cold nose dog that strikes tracks as they come to them and tree the tracks that they strike in timely fashion and have the meat when we get to the tree and tree every breeth but we all do not have a yard full or no one could sell us anything due to we would all have it allready so with that being said be honest about what you have and price it so that if someone buys her and are not happy with what she turns out to be for them that they can get back there investment and not feal like they are robbing someone else.
