Connie Gibson (Cliff Ridge line of redbone?)

Has anyone hunted with Connie Gibson's dogs or dogs from his stock? Id like to find out what kind of nose they have on average? Do they have what it takes to rig old old tracks? Also does anyone have a contact? Thanks for any help.

Red Dogs

I dont know his number but i think he lives out torwards bryson city. Pretty sure he sold a dog or so to Wayne Campbell that goes by Timber Chopper Kennels up in virginia. Maybe it was a dog named Apache cant really remember had to have been about three years ago.

You are right it was Apache. I know he was suppose to be good but wanted to see if anyone knew of any others. Thanks for the help. Have you run into any guys who have a mostly red pack that can really tree some bear? Looking for major cold noses and tracking abililty(with speed).

Red Dogs

If you are traveling on I-40 west bound dont stop in Burke or Mcdowell county or caldwell and avery for that matter. Im not saying that there are no red dogs being hunted here, but I am not aware of any that have the tools which your looking for. As far as red dog packs goes I think the closest thing in this area would be Elvis Edwards up in Mitchell county I have never hunted with him but he does have a reputation of getting the bear in the air

You ask about Connie, good man.Couldn't tell you about his present dogs but ole Symie was a good'un.This past year I had the pleasure of hunting with a tough young hunter,Donnie Stockton from Canton,NC..He has as good of red dogs(1male and 2females)as i have ever been with.Would own any of three myself.You could probably call Rex Griffith 828 648 5305 and get Donnies # These dogs don't need any help either !!!!

I have a young female here that is half cliff ridge (Pigeon River Reddy Freddy x Dons Smokey MTN Annie - Dons Smokey Mtn Annie is a Cliff Ridge bred female owned by Donnie Stockton, I think). I'm getting ready to ship her off for some training. She's hasn't had much exposure and she is not broke, but will strike out of the truck and is fast as lightning. Another dog Wayne Cambell had for a while was Cliff Ridge Bingo. Hell of a bay dog from what I hear. I actually talked to Connie about Apache and his only fault was lack of speed. As he got older he couldn't keep up. Wayne bred these dogs unsuccessfully a time or two. I don't know if he ever got a female to take or not. I had pups resreved out of both of them at one time and I never was able to get one. If I was looking for Redbone bear dogs I would contact Connie. I also hear that those Coffman dogs are making some bear dogs. It might be worth contacting Roger Hall out of Chilicothe, OH (Ragged Ridge Redbones) as well. I have a male here from him that is the meanest S.O.B. I've ever seen on a bear. He's not lightnng fast on a track, but if he catches one he'll put some serious pressure on it. Good luck

Rex Griffin owns the Freddy dog. I have a female out of this litter who is a slam up Bear dog. I Got her from Donnie and am proud to have her in my pack. If you get a pup or dog from Donnie you can bet it will be good stuff. his Dogs are somthing to see!

Donnie has a litter of pups now born 5-18-10 out of (Scarlet -speed she's got it) and (Slugger - good nose, rig dog and will put the teeth to one when he gets there) I think Connie's is going to get a couple. Call him 828-506-2729 may have to leave a message

The best coonhound I ever owned had Cliff Ridge on top (Crusher) and bottom (Symie). She was a bigger built female slightly over 70lbs in hunting shape. She was flat footed in the front though I did manage to champion her on the bench because she gaited so well. Her voice was average but high pitched so it traveled well. She was chop/squall on track and chop on tree. She ran a track FAST, Roy Coleman who has hunted walker's all his life drew her one nite and he said "Thats a track drivin' bitch", for those that know Roy you know thats a compliment for him to make that statement as Mr. Roy knows a coondog. She caught several coon on the ground in the years I had her. She was also very good at using her nose to wind a coon, many nites she would just fall treed and since she was an open trailer I assumed those were lay-ups, a few times she did that when the wind was blowing and was not on a tree just standing on the ground looking in the direction of a tree or group of trees and you could scan that area and find mr. coon (not good for comp hunting but great for a hide hunter). Her biggest faults were that she may have opened a little bit too much on track for many folks (not for me though) and that she choked down in volume on tree.
I have her daughter here and she is not the dog her mama was but is pretty good for a year old.
Mike Stepp in Bryson City, NC has some dogs with Cliff Ridge bloodlines.
