I Just Don't Believe It!
I was beginning to wonder what the heck coon hunting felt like because we haven't gone for so long! But what really shocked me was that the dogs still remembered what a ringtail smelled like!
Dogs We Hunted: Tanner & Sally
Time Spent in the Woods: 1hr 20min
Coon Seen: 6
Coon Treed: 2 Accuratly - 3 Missed - 1 My Dad Seen
Deer Antlers Found: 1
Here's the Story and Pics.
Tanner knew immediatly that we were going hunting. She saw my pulling out my hunting clothes and started jumping and running around the house like it was on fire!
We got to the woods and cut the dogs at 7:30 and Tanner got a little babbly on us, she was excited so I couldn't blame her.
It took her at tosp 5 minutes to start Smoking a track. My dad thought she might have been running deer and as we start her way we noticed all the fresh deer tracks. Suck! But it wasn't her typical deer bark so I gave her the benefit of the doubt. Not a minute later she was pounding on a tree!! YES!
But.... Just before we arrived, Sally opened up deeper in the woods and Tanner couldn't resist and left. We saw where she was treed though and shined, nothing. But one tree over there sat a nice coon.
Just as we found that coon, Tanner started squalling treed. We could here Sally also, so hopefully Tanner would stay. Well, we crossed I couldn't tell you how many fresh deer tracks on our way to them and we got to wondering if deer had learned to climb trees? They were treed on the edge of a field and it was a pretty small tree and it looked empty. But it wasn't! They had a really nice sized one!
We led then away and cut again. Tanner Blazed way out, way to fast. My money was on a deer this time. But then it went silent for a couple minutes and then she was Chopping treed. She switch over to a coon obviously. As we neared we heard Sally treeing too!
But just as we got there they started moving around. Tanner grabbed a tree just as the lights hit her. It was right by some corn and the tree was all scratched up, but no coon. But at the base of the tree was a 4-Point Shed!! Here again there were two coon sitting in the next tree over.
So we led them away from this spot and cut'm again.
They almost immedeitly hit another track. Tanner let out the first Tree Bark followed closely by Sally. This coon was up just a tall stick tree and we could see it easily. Not bad.
We decided it would be best to quit now, so we started to head out when my dad spotted a coon in a tree. He cut Sal to see if she would tree it. She tried, but couldn't pin point it. These never work for us.
We went home after this. There's still several inches in the woods yet. Next time I'm wearing my chaps, I think I filled my boots with a scoop of snow with almost every step.
Here's the Pics,
