Question about treeing and not leaving
I have a bluetick male 3 years old. He is a solid hard treeing dog. A little tight mouthed on track, but sure hard hitter under a tree. The Problem. Lets use this morning for instance. I turned loose before 5 am. He made a good tree before 5:30. I played with my young leapord at the tree some and caught my blue dog and thought I would try another. First time I walked down the creek about 100 yards, unsnapped him and took off telling him to hunt em up. Right back to the tree. I sort of expected it because he does this most of the time. Next time I walked about 1/4 mile down creek, same thing. By this time I am not happy so I take him back to the pickup, load and drive about 1/2 mile the other way from tree. He started out going the way I wanted, then after several minutes I could hear him back at the tree. I really dont want to whip him around a good solid tree, but dang it I hate having to change creeks to keep hunting. Any suggestions
a boot in his a$$ is what i do hes 3 years old correct him.

IMO a dog that is a treedog is a treedog. It is pure instinct. You beating him off a tree after he goes back would be like you whipping him off a female in heat. He will still tree next time.
Now there are dogs out there that have "learned" to tree and I probably wouldn't suggest whipping those kind but that is a whole other issue. I doubt those learned treedogs seldom have the problem of going back.

Shock collar
I use a shock collar on them. When you turn him loose and he turns around and STARTS heading back YELL AND HIT him with the juice. I want them to know I will NOT be walking back to many trees and I hunt Yadkin River dogs and everybody knows that they lack in the treeing department. Good luck.

recast him about 10 yards from the tree and don't let him go back. i hate having to walk back 100 yrds. to a tree i just left.
JUST A THOUGHT
Have you been shooting out all the coon's to him? If so that may be why he keep's going back to the same tree. He's expecting to get his reward, we have run into that before.
what i did to mine was walk her a 100' of the tree then stayed between her and the tree she figured it out and so will he.

I got one now.I had to whoop, shock, kick and cuss to get her to not go back..Finally got her broke..You can take 2 steps off a tree now and cut her loose..Thats one thing I cant tolerate is a dog going back!
GA DAWG
AMEN BROTHA! ha i hate it with a passion that and when a dog covers not just covers like cuz he's there too when they flat leave what they are doin and cover something else these hounds ya gotta love em ha
Kody
Thanks for all the advise. Looks like a whoopin is in store. (well maybe just some electricity). But as hard headed as he is, maybe both :0)
Spare the rod, spoil the dog !!

There is an easier way. The next time he does it try this. Grab him by the collar, don't say a word, lock your arm from the shoulder down stiff as a board, and lead him from the tree with his front feet barely touching the ground about fifty feet. If he does it again, do the same only about a hundred yards. My son had a lipper dog that was bad for it and this broke him in one session. That dog would go back a quarter mile and he never did it again and that dog was four at the time. I don't believe pounding on a dog is the soution for everything, matter of fact I haven't whacked the last two or three dogs I own and they mind better than most peoples kids. Gotta be smarter than the dog.
I've solved this problem on a few different dogs with the E-collar. Walk him 200 feet or so from the tree and cut him loose. If he starts to go back, correct him before he gets there and hollar at him. It is a lot easier to turn 'em around before he gets to the tree, when he's hammering away. You should be able to read your dog well enough to know that he wants to go back to that tree. Correct him just enough to get his attention, don't fry him. It will amaze you how easy it is to cure this bad habit for all the time of yours that dog wasted with you walking back to those trees.
Good luck, Dan
