Performance nomination, is it worth it?

I have a 19 month old pup that is Performance litter nominated, and as those of you that know about the performance program know it is going to cost us $200 to pay this pup up in the program, he is open and a very nice hound, definitely a coondog and he might even show, so my question is, will it pay to spend the money to put this pup in the program??

If you think

he is going to make a coondog and you plan on hunting him in the hunts I would say you would be crazy not to. if you go to a hunt that has say 10 dogs and he wins you will get a point. That point will be worth around 250 and you will get 200 of it yourself. You now have everything else from reg to ntch and all 5 nt ch wins to put in your pocket. You arent going to get rich but it can pay a whole lot toward entry fees and gas.

Thanks for your opinion Jason, I haven't really paid much attention to the program to know how the pay out works, this is the first litter nominated dog we've had and now we have a whole litter of nominated pups so I guess I better learn how it works...LOL...better late than never, thanks again.

If your going to put him in the hunts then yes pay him up. Actually it would be worth it even if you don't think your going to put him in the hunts. Someone might like him more than you do and offer you a pile of money for him. LOL

if you go to one hunt with 20 dogs and win it then it was worth paying him up cause you would win more alot more than 200 dollars.

How much is a point worth nowdays? Will it not keep going down and down as these dogs get older and older..I really think it should have a age restriction put on it..

the money does not end when a dog is granded out. the dog continues to earn performance points when its a grand night champion wich was one of the selling points of this system...to get more grand nights to the hunts therefore boosting nite hunt entries for the local clubs.

And I think thats one thing that will be the downfall of this program..The more dogs you get inrolled in it over the years. The less it makes a point worth..Maybe I'm wrong.

its amazing how many pups arent paid up for $25 before theyre 6 months old!! i mean amazing!!

Posted by Adam Reynolds on 02-05-2009 01:53 PM:

Yes it would be worth it if you will hunt him in the hunts. Plus like said above it automatically makes him a little more valuable to alot of people. If you arn't going to put him in the hunts then I wouldn't. I just go ahead and pay the 25.00 before 6 months and if they turn out it saves you alot. If not then you are only out 25.00.

Performance

Its well worth the Money. I have a dog thats almost paid for itself with this program. It's awful hard anymore to sell a dog that isn't Performanced anymore. Thats what everyone is looking for.

YES IT'S WORTH IT.

IF YOU TAKE HIM TO A HUNT WHERE THERE IS 10 DOGS AND GET A 1ST, YOU'VE MADE YOUR MONEY BACK THERE.

THEN IF DURING THAT YEAR HE GETS 20 2ND PLACE WINS, YOU RACK UP THE PERFORMANCE POINTS AND GET A HUGE CHECK IN MARCH.

i don't think its actually causing those grand nights to hunt at the local clubs like they wanted. Most people still park them once the gr them out and start all over again.

ITS THE BEST THING GOING IN ANY REGISTRY RIGHT NOW.....I PAID ONE UP FOR 200.00 AND IM GLAD I DID HAVE NOT WON A DIME YET BUT HOPE IT CHANGES THIS SPRING.........

I hunt a purty common bitch. Most in this area have drawn her and I think most would tell you she can tree a coon but is nothing special. In 2 years of hunting in the hunts she has earned over $1500.00 in PRP money. The farthest that dog has ever traveled for a UKC hunt is 75 miles one way, most of her money has been earned within 40 miles of her kennel. I paid $100.00 to nominate her sire and $25.00 to nominate her. 'Nuff said!

I agree HOBO you just don't see many Grands unless it's a big hunt.

Want to thank everyone that answered my post, I am going to pay the $200 because this ole plott pup is definitely a coondog, I just didn't understand the pay back on the program, but now I do! Thanks everyone for your comments.
