Coonhunter Needs Everyone's Help!! A.s.a.p.

Many of you know Wayne and myself, Janis Hunter. We support all UKC, AKC and PKC. I am the director of Suwannee Co. Animal Shelter and could receive a badly needed million dollar makeover. I need everyone's help. We save many animal's lives here at the shelter - coonhounds as well. We need everyone to log onto www.zootoo.com/makeover and register with the shelter zipcode of 32062 for Suwannee County Animal Shelter. We receive immediate points and everytime you participate on this site we get more points. I know I can depend on my fellow coonhunters to help us in our badly needed endevor!

Thanks

Shelters are necessary - HOWEVER

HSUS is the frst listed sponsor, followed by PetCo and American Humane.

I applaude this shelter for ASKING for support, but there ARE questions that we should ask about how this will play into the hands of the AR people who will tout the generosity of HSUS, PetCo and American Humane.

How is this project going to be presented to the public? And why does only ONE shelter reap the benefits?

It's WONDERFUL to renovate a shelter - but there are MANY shelters in this country needing financial assistance.
HSUS has published assets exceeding $200M while spending millions to go after hunting and hounds, pet ownership, farming, etc. etc. etc.
HSUS COULD AFFORD TO OPERATE NO-KILL SHELTERS ACROSS THE COUNTRY - check out the homes and possessions of HSUS officials who accept all this $ from pet lovers who do not realize they're contributing to a lavish lifestyle for those operating HSUS.

Ditto x 2!! That is as basic as it gets.

I don't know much about the contest, but I will say that there couldn't be more honest and hardworking people behind it. If Janis says she needs our support, then they do, and I am sure she wouldn't do anything to put our hounds in jeopardy.

You need to go on the web site ZooToo.com/makeover and you will understand what is going on. This is a contest and all shelters can enter. We are just one of many hundreds that have applied. You have to qualify on many levels, but the first is with points by joining and participating. The second phase is the grantors visiting the facilities that have qualified (top 20) then the third phase will be by public vote. We are known as the "Little Shelter That Could" We are in deep need of a makeover and do not recieve sponsorship like the Humane Society and other large groups get. If I had the time I think you would be impressed with all the good we do for this county and with education in general including coonhunting. We just need the support of our friends as we are a small county and will not recieve the necessary votes. I do not agree with alot of the stands that the humane groups take, but I am asking support of our shelter, and you should be proud that a coonhunter who understands the issues is running Suwannee County's facility. We do an expo each year and hand out information on coonhunting and bench shows and do our best to educate the public. Some don't understand, but we make an effort to let the public know that compitition hunting is a bloodless sport. Its a shame all shelters cannot have as balanced a view as we do! Hope this helps you to understand.

Spudsmom

I support what YOU DO! And you deserve our support. I pray your shelter will thrive. If you look at the ZooToo site you will see HSUS listed as one of the sponsors of this project. It's unfortunate that HSUS can manipulate those with good hearts using such cunning that when we "do good" we, as coonhunters shoot ourselves in the foot.
An AR shelter group here (Since disbanded because of unscrupulous "behind the scenes" activities) was willing to pay HSUS $200 to be included in an HSUS drawing to "win" a $5,000 grant. This lottery was open to all shelters & proposed shelters nationwide submitting the $200 fee to participate. When they weren't selected, then they had just handed HSUS $200!
HSUS will use this project to make HSUS appear to be a wonderful benefactor - which in turn will bring them more donations so they can continue to get their paid legislators to go after hounds, hunting, pet ownership, etc.
MY POINT IS - YES - IMPROVE YOUR SHELTER - BUT ALL OF US NEED TO BE AWARE THAT THIS IS JUST ANOTHER HSUS PLOY TO MANIPULATE THE GENERAL PUBLIC - FROM WHOM THEY GET THEIR FUNDS.

Thank you skyblu for your support. We have to walk a thin line, and stay centered. We have made it clear to our volunteers and any who will listen that we do support hunting and hunters. Its very unfortunate that most grants and shelter improvement money comes from the groups that we have been talking about. I have to depend on that money or kill everything that comes thru the doors due to lack of funding. But I stand my ground when it comes to defending our sport and our childrens heritage.
