I was at the meeting Sunday, we elected a new Vice President to replace the old one that never showed up at any of the events, the other officers stayed the same. We are still in business but the taxes and insurance are about to eat us up. The taxes are more than $1200.
I grew up laying drags at the club. I would like to have a nickle for every time I turned the crank for a water race at Charleston. There is some people I never saw at the club all of the years I was there.
Doughbelly Waltrip ran the club back then. The club made it's money from water races and drag races. It was one of the last clubs in the area to go to UKC night hunts.
They had a Field Trial a couple of years ago, had a good turn out, but the modern drag racers demand a mowed path for the dogs and we were not going to mow the woods.
Peanut Osborne will be 90years old this week end. Peanut was one of the old time members.

over the yrs. a fine club, hope things continue to work well, would think that each member, especially those who pontificate about how much they have could kick in a few dollars toward the property tax.... tough these days to keep clubs going for many reasons, sure that good people will be able to do good things, had an excellent v.p. and hope the next one is able to provide the help-work-expertise that the outgoing one has contributed to the club over the yrs... best of luck....
There isa lot of stuff being put on this thread that is far, far from the truth. First of all, there are some members who have offered to donate some cash to keep the club going. That very topic was discussed between some members Saturday. Large donations have been turned down that were offered by at least 2 members, long time members that show up all of the time, not just run their mouth on a message board. Other members could afford to donate and might if asked. A modest donation of a $20 sack of dog food was donated by Kevin Pruemer Saturday that was a raffled for the club's benefit. I have bought a $25 Rural King gift card that I plan to donate to be raffled off on the next hunt. There is some talk about raffling off a gun or a side of beef to raise money. I have paid a entry fee to every Bench Show ever held at the club and some Nite Hunt fees.
As of now, there are 7 UKC Hunts schedualed at Charleston. I have voluteered to be a Hunt Director at 1 of them. Some of the guys doing the talking and not much else need to volunteer to be a Hunt Director. Anyone over 18 can do it and it will free up Mark so he can enter his dogs. I may try to line up a UKC Beagle Hunt, and/or UKC Squirrel Hunt, and possibly a PKC Squirrel Hunt. I will pay the PKC Squirrel Hunt fees out of myown pocket, so the club would be sure to make some money. There is one guy on here that has beagles for sale on the beagle board but I have to wonder if he would help at a Beagle Hunt..
As for the insurance, I have mentioned where the insurance may be bought cheaper and had a personal friend to call Mark to tell him where to buy better insrance.
My brother has a band that could put on a benefit show/dance. I used to dance with a lot of pretty girls at the old school house when my grandfather played the fiddle at many dances held there.
I guess posting a couple of pictures is important. Mean while, some guys are actually trying to save the club instead of trying to get part of the money from selling the club's property. There were some folks never around until possible sale of the property came up.

I don't think anyone is going to get carried away with donations but therewas some talk amoung some members about modest donations.
All I can say is that I was going to Charleston's events back in the early 60s and have for years and years since then. There are some folks I never saw at any event.
As for a pot luck supper like we used to have, I did suggest it at Saturday's meeting but it got a luke warm response. I do remember one of the last suppers they had at the club sitting across from Rex's dad and he, I, and Frances Gail having a very nice conversation. I liked him.
As for club memberships, I am a long time member of the Coles County Coonhunter's Association (Charleston) of the Kaskaskia Coonhunter's Club, (Shelbyville), the Jasper County Coonhunter's Club (Newton), the Flora Coonhunter's Club, (Flora), The Brownstown club(Brownstown), the Mt Vernon Club, (I asked Floyd Dowds about paying dues Saturday). I have in the past paid dues at Casey (defunct),at Geoff, and of course I am a member of the Illinois State Coonhunter's Association. Plus, we attend events at clubs like Hillsboro, Filmore, Kenny, Penfield, Marshall, and posibly some others that don't come to mind now. I also belong to 3 Beagle Clubs, and had memberships to other Beagle Clubs and am a long time member of a Cur and Feist Club. I consider Charleston and Shelbyville my home clubs. Frances Gail and I have friends all over the state. Nuff said.

i wouldnt mind joining the shelby club!! i live near taylorville and it is the closest club to me, i think. got any info?
Jamey Judson, you would probably still be barred from UKC if you hadn't got some good help from someone you are bad mouthing. Your club was not a UKC club, your club had officers stealing money from the club, and if anyone said "oh no, Dave Haugh is here" it is because they knew I had good beagles. I have made UKC Dual Grand Champion beagles and I have some that I will be competing with this Spring with the 3 beagle clubs I am a member with. Hopefully, I will make some more UKC Champions. I never see you at any of the UKC beagle hunts and I have never known you to own a UKC Champion beagle.
As for the club and the 40 acres, a vote was taken to lease out some of the ground during deer season. I was the only one voting against the idea. I wasn't against the club making money, I am against all of the local hunting ground being leased out to deer hunters who stop coon hunters from hunting. I personally think it is hypacritical to be a coon hunter and favor the leasing of the hunting ground. Soon, there will be no place to turn a hound loose to tree a coon, even a coon hunting club's property. We won't be able to hunt on our property at the times it is leased out, I was over ruled and will reluctantly go along with the other club member's wishes on leasing our property.
There is no talk of any of our property being sold. It has been enrolled in a forest program which will help with the taxes. So that is the end of that issue.
Some of you guys need to know what you are talking about. Try coming to a meeting sometime.
I failed to mention Frances Gail and I attend UKC coonhound events at Robinson, Illinois and Claremont, Illinois along with the clubs mentioned in the other message but we are not member of either club.

Jamey, Frances Gail says I must remain a step above some of the others so I will.
I have listed the clubs my dogs have won at. And, they will be winning again this year. I have some dogs that I am into the 9th generation that I have bred, raised, trained and won with. Nuff said.
Jamey I am sure UKC maintains a file on you. Heck, they may have one on me. But, I am sure the clubs I have listed where I am a member appreciate Frances Gail and I being members and attending their events. The other clubs we attend appreciate our attendance. Nuff said.
And, Ole Redtick says that if you will notice, the list of moderators and UKC employees has changed. Nuff said.
