First thing have you been hunt him alot? If you have
been pushing him real hard you might have burnt him
out at a young age. I have seen it before. Let him rest
for a few weeks and then see what happens.

This might sound stupid because I thought it was. I had a male about 13 months old started doing the exact thing. He had a bad inner ear infection. He never acted sick or anything would go hunting just never open or tree. Vet told me hounds have such a resonance that it will keep them from barking at all if it is bad enough. But be the case in your but cant hurt to check.

Give him some rest. I'ld put him on some antibiotics for a week and see if that helps. Otherwise you may have burnt him out. I've seen it before when a young dog is pushed. You'll hear about some superstar pup then about 2-3 years old he burns out and you never hear from him again.

Just wondering if you've used a shock collar on him for anything?

you can push them and then it is not fun any more. give him a rest for about a month. and then start working him again.

If you cant figure out the pproblem, send the dog down here for a couple weeks. I charge $150.00 a month and that includes food. If you feed purina pp then I charge $175.00 a month. I think the dog just needs something different to get him interested in hunting again. You can not push a dog to hard. Not saying this is the case. A dog just doesnt loose its knowledge like that. Call me and we can talk about this a little further. 843-830-6806 Thanks.

My thoughts exactly. Give him a break. Put him up and take another dog let him see that a couple of weeks and see how he acts. JMO

The reason I asked is because a lot of dogs are really sensitive to electricity. I have known of dogs that would not leave your feet with a shock collar around it's neck.

Everyone has given good advice; just give him a rest. Hope he comes around for you.

I agree with most of the things all of you have said. For sure, the first thing I would check is his ears. I have had these problems in the past and it can really take a toll on a dog's ability to "get the job done." Take him to a Vet that understands hounds. A friend of mine has a young hound about the same age and he, all of sudden, doesn't want to hunt. We have concluded it was the shocking treatments he has received in the past few months. So, If I were you, I would look at these two areas for clues. If not, rest, hunt him alone, and let him restore his sefl-confidence.
