Bluetick question....

Please forgive me if this is a stupid question.....but I have been out of the game for about 5 years.

I recently started looking around on the internet to read up on some Bluetick breeders. I have started to get the "itch" for another hound. It will probably be a little while yet, but I figured it wouldn't hurt to do a little homework.

This is probably gonna be a pretty lengthy post....so I'll apologize in advance....

My first Bluetick was an old fashioned one....bought in the late 90's. I found out about the Old Fashioned Bluetick Association on the internet and found a guy here in WV that hunted these dogs. Well, long story short....he hooked me up with a guy that had pups...and I bought one. Shortly after this......the Old Fashioned Bluetick Assoc. "became" the American Blue Gascon Hound Assoc. I never really hunted this dog much. The dogs I hunted were Vaughn and Hammer bred.

Fast forward to today......As I said, I have begun doing my homework so I am ready when the time comes to get another. I stumbled upon a couple kennels down south.....both reference having old fashioned blueticks with long ears and big bawl mouths. I look at their lines and they have Vaughn, Rambo II, Hammer, Spanky, Smokey River, Uchtman, etc. I also noticed the pedigrees on their hounds were loaded with GRNITECH hounds.....and many wins and top tens in big events. I never thought of the Old Fashioned/American Gascon as a competition hound. So this has led me to believe that the American Gascon and the Old Fashioned Bluetick are two entirely different things. I noticed one of thier stud dogs is even listed as being "Registered Old Fashioned Blueticks".

I really liked the American Gascon I had for a pet, but he had a lot of medical problems through the years. He lived to be 9. I really don't want another one of these. When I get another Bluetick......I only want one this time. I plan to take my time and get exactly what I want.......I also want one that could compete in competition hunts in case I decide to give that a try again.

So....could someone please tell me......how long have dogs with Rambo II, Hammer, Uchtman, etc. breeding been referred to as Old Fashioned? Or am I reading something wrong?

I really liked the breeding that both of these kennels offer.....I just want to make sure I don't get another Gascon.

Thanks in advance......and again, sorry for such a long post.

Heckler Thanks for throwing my name in there
old fashion bluetick is a bigger hound with ussually a blocky head and long ears but would not pass as a gascon.I prefer alot of Vaughn with a shot of Smokey River.

Oklahoma Blueticks

Eddie Harp has some very nice blueticks in Stigler Oklahoma. His hounds have the big houndy heads long ears and bawl mouths. I would refere anyone to him. Thats if you want to look this for west.
