Hey i was just looking for knowledge from some of you guys a little smarter then me. Do coon like to run when the temperature gets below freezing? like say in the upper 20's

in ky coon will den up and not move so if you can tree them in 10 weather you got to prove it to me to get me to belive.your thomeater is wrong or you looked at it wrong.when it gets 15 here the coon stop feeding and use there winter fat to live on.yes i have a COON DOG NOW and have owned several that i rased

alright so i went out tonight tried hunting in a swamp maybe i need to try different place but i did tree once in the middle of a bunch of hemlocks on a big big oak tree. Is standing corn better to hit then the swamps now or what do you recommend?

Treed two on the outside in eastern Pa tonight. Both were in big hardwood trees right next to the river (Delaware). A little snow on the ground and temps in the low thirties.

Here in Iowa the 20's seperate the cold nosed from the hot. My blueticks can run a frosted 20 degree track but these single digit snow tracks keep me at home.

A cold nose dog & a hot nose dog has absolutely nothing to do with the temperature.

Here in eastern NC the coon lay up when it gets in the mid 20's. If it stays cold they start moving again, usually on the third night.

When it's cold enough for most coon to lay up you will run a larger number of old boars, they are more likely to be out rambling than sows. Those old coon usually are more likely to run and cover more ground.

We run them about noon in the standing corn

I think alot of it depends on where you are in the country as to how cold is too cold. Up north they probably move alot more in the 20's than say in Alabama or places that are not as cold all the time. Don't know but here when you get a severe temp drop it seems like they stay denned up for a few nights and if the temps stay down they start moving after a few nights.

I have ran coons in the winter months, for as long as three hours, treed them shook, or sqawled them out and treed them again, an hour or two later, that is if they made it away from the tree

Here in central PA the only thing moving is possum and skunk. Haven't seen nor treed a coon since the end of November. Trappers were out heavy this year and said they trapped few coon. No sure where they are, but they aren't here. Hope the warmer weather turns out better, because they aren't moving or aren't here now.

I found that in this cold you might as well stay home. That is from both a hound and trapper. Some times I think coon stay den up till it gets above 15 then come out to play. or what is the snow like is it hard or dry and fluffy or wet and heavy.

Stay out of the swamps when its freezing..Try running in oak ridges or farms that keep cows..If there out, they will be feeding in the siledge pits...I've been at this game for over 45 yrs and I can count on one hand how many coon I've treed on the outside at 10-12 degrees...In Ma. at these temps most of the coon stay in..Stay home a give mama a hug...

I was treeing at least one coon every night out at the end 0f '08 and the best night I had so far this year was 6. Then in 2009, seems like all the coons decided to go away. Been 5 times since the new year and only treed 1 in a den tree. Seen lots of possum and skunk though.

Supposed to get down to 4 degrees this weekend, but I'll probably go anyway. I like to get out even if the coons aren't moveing. I work outside so I'm used to the cold and it doesn't bother me.

here in va for the most part. end of 08 i was putn up alot of coons. But now it seems way harder to even find one to run. cant wait till end of feb beginning of march. I'm try to hunt my dog i feel guilty when i pull out of the drive and shes standing in the pen but its to cold and they just aint moving good enough. Covered alot of miles in the past week or two. Tree in to many den trees. The next night above 35 or 40 they should move real good.
