My judy female had two of them the first one she had five stitches on the inside with 8 on the outside, the pad was cut from one end to the other (caused by a glass cut). It took a few weeks to heal before the stitches were removed. So you are looking at 1 1/2 to 2 months. hopefully he don't lick and bite it after you get it fixed up. you are more than likely going to have to put a e-collar on him so he can't bite at it. (I think thats what you call that collar). After it heals start putting tuff pad on it.
WASH!!
IT out good and super glue it works for my dogs!!!

Once I had a dog that got clipped by the haybine, cut both tendons in its hind legs...I thought that was the end of her.
I laid her up in the barn, she licked, and licked, and licked....After 2 weeks she started walking around. For the rest of her life she would walk with all 4 but when she broke into a run she would just use her front 2.
Dogs have an amazing ability to heal and adapt.
I bet that pad will heal fine.
I don't know about Stiching it up- ?? I have seen the Infection from "Closing a Cut Pad" .. You just have to be very careful and Make sure it keeps clean .. If it starts to Swell "Cut the Stiches loose" It will take a little longer to heal when left open "If keeped clean and dry" JMO

Is that Gauge?? I don't think it will EVER heal. Best thing to do would be send him down here to me:-)) Really, I hope the injured hound has a speedy and complete recovery.

Looked to be a glass cut about 5/8" deep!
So far Gauge seems to be doing fine!! The vet clinic is to check him in 3 days to see if all is going ok. Remove the stiches in 14 days. The vet figured 4 to 6 weeks. I hope not!! Thanks, Danny G.

Just in time for the January thaw and maybe , just maybe some decent running since we got shut down early again this year , keep in touch Danny and Eric .
This may sound ridiculous but
Pour some beer over it everyday for a week.
When I use to run deer dogs they were always getting tore up. This old man that hunted with us told me to do this. To my amazement it worked very well. I still do this today. And yes I finish what does not get poured onto the animal. Wouldn't want to get cited for wasteing alcohol.

Danny, find a place to keep him up off of the ground and put something bitter on the dressing to keep him from gnawing at the wrap. Had a dog that bad a few years back and had a time getting the dog to leave it alone. Use some blue lotion spray and later on pad tuff. Sorry but it could take a month or so to heal up enough to hunt.
Danny
Keep him out of the woods for about a month! This cut here happened 2 weeks before this and was just about healed up until she got into a hole and started digging... now im in the same boat as you... just waiting! and it sucks!
