-- How many nights a week? (http://forums.ukcdogs.com/showthread.php?threadid=2433)

How many nights a week?

How many nights a week do you guys hunt? With my work schedule I average 5/week.

I voted 5, but it's really more complicated.
I certainly don't hunt 260 nights a year.

From December 'til February I might not be able to hunt because of the weather. I still go out a little but... it's cold up here!

From July to September I may not hunt as much because it's too hot.

March, April, May, June, October & November are usually good for 5 nights a week.

Depends on what dog I have too.
A young prospect and good cooning weather might get me out 7 nights a week.
An old dog will get me to slack off some, you can hurt those veterans, especially if it's hot.

I finally started a journal this year.
I think it's going to be interesting to see just how much I really do hunt.

Anyway, I think I'm out plenty.
My wife thinks I should get out of the house even more.

Generally I hunt 5-7 nights a week. I have on several occasions when a pup had me really excited, hunted 60+nights in a row. If I hunt 3-4 nights a week I feel like I am not hunting much. Severe weather is about the only thing that rules a night out for me, thunderstorms, ice, or flooding will keep me in. I LOVE hunting in a lite rain or snow, especially snow.

On average over the entire year it has to be between 3 and 4 nights a week. Most weeks more than that, but then you have the weeks that I am unable to hunt at all.

On average 2 nights during the week mon-thu when working. 3-4 nights on the week im off. then that may drop because of family functions, football and dance class. i would feel comfortable saying 100 to 125 times a year.....

I average about 3-4 nights a week. During season when the weather's good, I may step it up to 6 or 7 nights. During extreme heat or cold, it might get down to 1 or 2. So, conservatively speaking, 3 or 4 nights a week.

Hard to be exact - depends on time of year. during the fall and early winter, 5 or 6nights per week. Late winter - once per week if the weather cooperates. Spring gets 4 or 5 nights and summer depends on the heat - then comp hunts on weekends. I'd say average about 3 or 4 per week

I usually hunt 3-5 nights a week depending on weather and whatnot. Nearly lost interest when my young male started his downward spiral but since I bought my blue female I have got fired back up about going and have stepped it up and strung about 15-20 nights in a row before I decided she needed a rest as well as me, probably me moreso than her. LOL Anyways I'm back to looking forward to getting out nearly every night again like when I had my first dog. Boy I sure do miss her. (sniffle...sniffle) So when it cools I expect 3-5 to jump to 5-7 nights a week.

6-7 nights a week, year round.

When I am in town....................

4-5 nights a week year 'round, except 6-7 nights a week in the fall and winter.

I hunt almost every night when coon season is in. I hunt 3-4 nights a week in the cool weather. In the summer, I like to garden and fish.

hunting time

I listen to all the hunting that is going on at the local hunts. Now, I go hunting just pretty often,4 to 7 nights each week and seldom do I hear or see other hunters or hounds. I leave the house at dark and normally hunt for 4 to 6 hours regardless of season. Is it just that we have lots of hunting territory or is it coonhunter stories. In this flat country you can hear a loud mouth hound 3 or 4 miles away on a clear night and I just don't hear any. During season, for the first two weeks, I do run into a few hunters.

My question is? How often do other avid hunters run into hunting parties. I will often hunt for several weeks without running into other groups. I hunt a territory that is 15 to 20 miles wide and 50 miles long that is made up of ditches and creeks. I most likely won't hunt the same woods more than three or four times each year.

I dug out the county maps last year and started marking hunting spots that I hunt. Surprised, I came up with nearly 160 locations where I have hunted and treed coon. Most of the farmers know me and when I do ask the farmers welcome me. Farmers are very serious about letting me know how much damage the rascals do.

This deal with hunting clubs and leased ground sure gets me on edge.

I put 4 because...

It's an average. Sometimes we hunt more, sometimes not. But, if you took a callendar and kept track and split it up even it evens out to about 4 nights/week.

I just wish I could go!

I use to hit it 6 nights a week very faithfully. But now, with the kids, getting up at 4:00am and all, I feel lucky if I make it 1 night a week. Generally I shoot for 2. I see a lot of difference in my hounds also. When they hit it hard, usually they and you are on top of your game.

Yes Rob

I've always contended that Smoke is one of the hardest hunters I know. Its' a good thing too. I'd hate to see how much better his dogs would be if he only hunted one or two like you and I do. Probably wouldn't even hang with us anymore!

I'm lookin forward to Smoke having some "little Smokies" so I can see if he still hits it five nights a week!!!lol!!!

Posted by Smoke on 08-14-2003 11:09 PM:

I bet it won't change much.

What kind of little Smokies do you mean. Blue ones or white ones.

Posted by JMoore on 08-16-2003 01:31 AM:

it varies with the whether...........if it's the time of the year when it is not too hot or cold about 3 mabey 4 nights a week...........during the summer and winter time about 1 or 2 nights a week...........
