There's some early birds already ice fishing here but by next week there will be all the regulars. We'll get out but probably not much until after Christmas. Looking forward to some bluegill and crappie fillets cooked.

Here is an "ice shack"

Of course...these are not very portable.

I prefer this type

dang, thats funny!!!when you drag a shack out on the ice..its a shelter used for ice fishing, usually has the comforts of home...its insulated and you can have a heater to keep warm..pretty big, you usually pull them out on the ice with a 4 wheeler or a truck..not to be confused with the smaller pop up type shanty..there are holes in the floor to fish thru the ice..

there are holes in the floor you open up to fish through so you don't have to sit outside in the cold.

I hear that down in OK that folks set up shacks on their docks so they can crappie fish when it is cold instead of sitting on a boat when it is 45 degrees. Since there won't be ice they somehow work it right on their dock. I would like to see that if anyone has pics.

Driving on ice this early.....let's just say there's a chance for a Darwin Award in that. Here it will be portables or sitting out in the open until late Dec. If we get nights in the single digits then ice will build good. You Mississipi folks would adapt to it and have a blast. My brother in law and his family come up from AR every Christmas to get their fix of winter fun. We never froze them yet....and we've tried.

will thats just mean. we give you hand warmers and foot warmers. now last year in the playoffs you seen bret freezing his but off. and he was the qb for how many years. it wasnt even cold that night. but my peaple have allways lived here. even beforethe french fur traders.

oh i know and i know people adapt to their surrondings, but from the temps that we see here i just couldn't imagine it being that cold

Nate

Naw, that's not mean. We try to help them stop thinking of cold as an enemy and suit them up to be able to enjoy being out. Of course we usually don't have record cold in Dec. and they don't come up in Jan. and Feb. so they miss our coldest. It gets a lot colder to the north and people have lived in it back 1000's of years. It's all about being fed, wrapped up and keep moving.

What band of Objibway is yours? I'm a euro mutt transplant with kin going back to the Dutch in the 1630's in this land so I have kin that beat the french to get here.

Pokey- I think the scientific term is "anthropogenic climate change". global warming is a simple term for a complex problem. besides overall global increase in temps there will be regional changes which result in cooler temps.
For those who dont know- Dan Dogs lives about 5 hours south of me. For the past probably 5 years DD's area [southern wisconsin] has had significantly colder and snowier winters than my area [Minneapolis Minnesota]. At my house there is only an inch of snow on the ground , it is 16 degrees, and we have no forecasts for subzero temps over the next 10 days [as of yesterdays 10 day forecast]. while DD has subzero forecasts and how much snow -5-8?

Enjoy it- you may have to move up here for better weather!

update- the same day that is predicted a high of -1 in southern wis has us at
+17!
