We are treeing them early evening here in west central Illinois. Around 7-8 pm. We are usually in bed by 9 with one coon hide in the freezer from that night. Only 2 nights when they were running early morning.

gary, the last couple nites have been pretty tuff thursday nite was a good nite we treed 6. fri nite we hunted 5 hrs and treed 3. last night we made 3 dens and then got 1 on the outside and then i quit for the night.

stricker, we have been treeing them between 8 and midnite its been real tough the last couple nites to find a good track shakers had to go yonder to find one.

shane, sorry to hear about mike y'all are in our prayers.

ace is coming along nicely he absolutely loves fighting a coon. what surprises me about that pup is his nose. hes got a great nose for a walker dog i think. its neat to watch him winding he will stand on his back feet with his nose in the air lol. have you been treeing any coons down south?

we have the same problem here, you wont see a coon hunter until season comes in then you hear about the night they treed 26 and one night 18 and its all you can do to keep from slapping them,

WE HAVE HAD A GOOD SEASON SO FAR, WE HAVE THE SAME PROBLEM EVERYONE ELSE HAS, WITH SOME OF THE GUYS KILLIN EVERY COON THEY SEE, BUT I GUESS THERE'S NOT MUCH CAN BE DONE. SO FAR WE HAVE BEEN ABLE TO HIT SOME REALLY GOOD TRACKS WITH THE EXCEPTION OF ONE NIGHT.

after I seen 21 coon's sell friday for a $98.00 ..I decided the coon's were worth more in the wood's than in the freezer....I won't hunt the old dog much and when I do he's only getting about every 5th coon he tree's....I will hunt my young dog and knock some out to her ....if she can get under one...I was trapping a few muskrats but i seen some of them sell for as cheap as 50 cent's and as much as a $1.25....that's the report from here in coles county ILL.

I've been having a good season. I've harvested ten so far since nov tenth and i don't shoot more than one a night.

didn't shoot one last nite i just hunted my pup ace. he made 2 dens but i seen the coon in one of them. I'm real sure he bumped a deer and ran it like he was tied to it for 467 yards then he fell off and treed a coon. LOL

Any IL hunters hunt around New Haven...just across the Indiana line from Evansville/Mt. Vernon? My father-in-law has a hunting lease in that area and I hope to make it down once deer season is over for a few drops. Looks like there should be a ton of coons in those bottoms.

Here in central Illinois (near lincoln) up until this past sunday I have been treeing coons 6-8pm then it seems to slow and then picks up from 10-11pm

Mike, I don't really live in Illinois, but I'd like to talk about Illinois coon hunting!

My Dad and brother Phillip have been hunting pretty much every night they have been able. They might kill one coon a night, if a young dog does a good job, but most nights they make 3-4-5 trees and no coons are harmed.

Dad's got two dogs out of old stud dog (Hutson's Black Ace). One is over two, a male named Jack. The other is a year old female named Betty. Both have really been tearing them up as of late. Jack is really, really close to being a finished dog. I've hunted with his several time, he is quick, loud and independent. The Betty female is going to get hunted by herself after this deer season weekend is over. I guess she is doing great.

Did you happen to make it to Flora the night after Thanksgiving for the non licensed hunt? Local fur buyers (and other local businessmen) put up $100 for 1st place and $50 for cast wins. They had 19 dogs I think. Dad ended up getting scratched for the 1 hour (he was hunting Ace). Phillip lost his cast by 25+. The Jack dog treed, and if a Walker dog didn't back his Jack would win. Jack treed for 4 1/2 minutes and the walker came in and covered and won the cast. Thats how it goes though. He did have one by himself that night.

I do plan on moving back to IL in 3-4 years when my schooling is over. I can't wait.

Good luck out there!

Mike,
I'm glad you've been able to hunt hard (except this weekend). I wish I were able to, but my schedule here at college doesn't allow it (plus I don't even have a dog right now).

I thought they were going to put a thread on here about the hunt, but I don't guess they did. I figure since it wasn't licensed they didn't.

Keep up the hunting stories. I like to read about them. When I get moved back to IL, we can get together to hunt some. Where exactly do you live? You know where I was. I'm thinking when I'm done with college I'd like to go back towards Fairfield (south of Flora if you don't know).

Talk to you later.
