**2009 Hoosier Tree Dog Alliance Banquet**

You Are Invited to the 2009 Hoosier Tree Dog Alliance Banquet!

Saturday, February 07, 2009 Greenwood, Indiana

We need your help and participation now for the upcoming Second Annual Hoosier Tree Dog Alliance Membership Banquet. If you joined us last year you know this is an awesome occasion to get together with your fellow hunters. If you have ever attended a National Wild Turkey Federation or Ducks Unlimited Banquet, this event will be very familiar to you. The HTDA has reserved Jonathon Byrd Banquet Facility to hold our annual event. This facility is top of the line and is easily accessible from anywhere in Indiana. Jonathon Byrd’s is located right off I-65 at the Greenwood exit just south of Indianapolis.

We will be holding many live auctions and raffles. There will be keynote speakers on a variety of topics. We will have great dinner and fellowship. There will be state legislators and influential IDNR officials in attendance that want to hear from you. What a great way to wrap up our coon and squirrel seasons. Come and join us in an atmosphere that will allow us to swap hunting stories, raise some funds and recognize our gracious supporters from 2008.

Please take a few minutes to clear your schedule for Saturday, February 7th, 2009 Jonathan Byrd's Banquet & Conference Center, 100 Byrd Way Greenwood, IN 46143 (317) 881-8888. http://jonathanbyrds.com/ Exit #99 off I-65, go west, and turn left to Jonathan Byrd's Banquet & Conference Center. Doors Open at 5:00 PM, we will adjourn at 9:00 PM.

You should plan on a wonderful evening of fellowship, raffles, auctions, guest speakers, and a delicious banquet quality meal. Your $20 annual dues include, admission, one meal ticket and raffle tickets. Family and non-member meal tickets are $15 each and Children aged 3-12 are $10. Children under 3 eat free. To ensure your banquet reservations please R.S.V.P. by Saturday January 10th with number of members and guests attending. You can find additional HTDA Banquet information at http://www.hoosiertreedogs.org/

Please invite anyone that you think would enjoy the program, a nice meal and the possibility of taking home a new gun, a custom crafted bow, a nice piece of artwork or a vast array of other possibilities that will be auctioned and raffled as the night moves along. With your help we can make this a great event for our sport, our families and our future as tree dog enthusiasts.

Attend this historic banquet and see what we have been up to in the last year and how we plan to work for you in the future. If you are interested in playing a role and putting some time into making this banquet a success there is plenty for you to do. We need merchandise for raffles and auctions, advertising, folks to sell admission tickets, members to work the floor and the list goes on. If you can help in any way please contact Kyle Heminger, Chairperson for the event, (317) 508-2454, hemingerkyle@yahoo.com or Janet Butcher Co Chair, (260) 726-5716 Janet.Butcher@stoneridge.com

Please return your R.S.V.P. by January 10th 2009 and help us secure the future of tree dog sports here in Indiana!

Message From HTDA President Chris Powell

Valued HTDA Member,

Greetings, I hope this letter finds you well and enjoying your dogs during this fall season. This is by far my favorite time of year. A tree dog enthusiast can really get out and work their dogs without fear of chiggers, ticks, poison ivy or excessive heat. I hope you are getting out there and getting after them.

The HTDA board is at full throttle planning another great banquet. Our banquet in early 2008 was a huge success. We are planning for an even better banquet this year. We are hoping for a bigger attendance in February of 2009. We are planning on some great prizes, auction items, speakers and a great meal. If you are wandering where the funds generated from this banquet go, read on.

I want to take a few lines here and tell you about some of the things the HTDA is working on for tree dog enthusiasts in Indiana.
• In June of this year the HTDA sponsored a young hunter’s attendance at the Karl E. Kelley Memorial Youth Camp. The camp is sponsored by the Indiana Conservation Officers Organization. 5th and 6th graders go to a premier outdoor camp that teaches them outdoor skills and outdoor education. This scholarship was awarded to the winner of our essay contest and all tuition was paid.
• The “Don’t Shoot my Dog” Campaign was launched. Posters and banners are being posted around the state. The purpose of the campaign is to raise awareness for people in Indiana about tree dog sports and curb dog shooting incidents. The campaign will include a complete information and training packet that will be sent to prosecutors and law enforcement agencies across the state. Our hope is that the information provided will help in the successful prosecution of people who shoot our valuable hunting dogs.
• The HTDA is sponsoring various youth programs across the state, including youth squirrel dog hunts at Fish and Wildlife areas.
• The HTDA is sponsoring youth events at sponsor clubs.
• The HTDA sponsored trophies for the AKC and UKC State Youth Championship.
• The HTDA sponsored the HTDA high scoring dog trophy for Autumn Oaks.
• The HTDA is representing hunters at DNR hearings and meetings. We have been working on rule proposals that regulate the use of Fish and Wildlife for Nite Hunts.
The list is much longer and for the sake of space here I have only hit the high points.

As we approach our 2009 Banquet I hope that you will clear your schedule and join us in Greenwood. Your support helps secure our future for the sport of hunting with tree dogs.

The next issue I would like to address is the ballot being sent to all HTDA members. The HTDA is an organization that represents all tree dog enthusiasts. There are three Board members whose terms will end in 2008. Those members are: Jerry Moll, Joe Newlin and myself. Per HTDA policy all three members have the option to be placed on the ballot for re-election. All three of us have expressed great interest in staying on board for future terms. This is not to say that the HTDA Board will not take other nominations. In fact we are sending this nomination ballot out so that other interested members can be nominated and run on the ballot as well. Under the guidelines of our by-laws the existing board will review the nominations and approve the names that will go on the official ballot. The Official ballot will be sent back out to you and you will vote from the list for the people that you want to represent you as a board member of the HTDA. Please take some time and consider nominating some qualified people. Also make sure you talk to the person you are nominating to ensure that they actually want to serve.

Thanks for reading, have a Merry Christmas and hope to see you in February at the banquet.

Sincerely,

Chris Powell, President HTDA

Jay,

My understanding from Tammy was that you and Robert did not want to join, but chose to attend the banquet to "see what it was all about".

Therefore, your names won't be listed as members attending, but rather you are included in the 86 guests that are attending.
