silent track dogs
Just curious what breed , if any has or could have the better traight of being silent on track , just curious I am a hog hunter and prefer a silent track dog , mainly i run curs or leopards, I have had a few hounds in the past , nothing serious like you fellers , but a hound just the same and loved their cold nose and tracking ability , most where dead silent till looking at the hog , one or two where kinda open but only on a hot track, I like to talk dogs , not trying to start an arguement , just curious what the houndsmen have to offer in this area .
Thanks for yer time and help.
if i was looking for a silent trailing hound that cold trailed i might look at a foxhound strain.. i havent seen many cold trailing coonhounds that were silent... i can think of a couple right now but they are the exception.. ive never run any hogs. would the same dog open the same on a hog track as a bear track. ??
ya I would think a dog would react the same on a hog or bear track , I have used a few plotts and have had one or two hounds that where silent on track but none that where bred for it just a fluke I guess , but I like the silent traight helps keep the hogs off guard and makes for shorter races and better chances of putting a hog at the end of the race plus its just what i like ...lol
ive hunted with lots of coyote hounds that cold trailed silent... if you could find one with grit that would cold trail youd have a very short race .. pete
