if you get someone that has good treeing dog when you get to tree chain your dog up then praise an pet the one treeing shoot coon out if season is open to other dog let it hit the ground dead get other dog off it fast but pet him or her up good. i try to kill coon so dogs don't rip them up or get ript up. thats what worked for my 2 year old walker and i tired him to the tree that coon was in if possable
turn about 20 cage coons out to him and let him see
them go up.to tight up a dog you have got to put the meat
on him.
treeing instinct has to be bred into them for them to pick it up
any dog can be taugh to tree i have a lab that will tree as lon as a hound tracks it to the tree, but you can turn her loose in thick coon and she won' tree let her folow the hound and se trees like she knows what she is doing.
urning coon loose during dayligh may ge him o tree once he learns coon go up

Treeing is just as natural as running a track. If the dog runs past a known coon in the tree look for another dog. As far as pack animals a treeing dog would starve to death but it's what we want.
yeah like said before, if you cant get him/ her to tree, just look for a new dog.
And instead of a redbone.. (because that could be your other problem) Try gettin' a bluetick!!

i got a three year old redbone that is the same way. runs a track very nice then trees for a bit then leaves.. i've noticed if he's treed and another dog comes in and trees with him he's gone.. he used to be a very hard tree dog when he was young then i made a huge mistake and his recovery from that is not coming a long very smoothly.... i think maybe just running them with a good tree dog and shooting the coon down would help???
jeffery, that is a nice lookin red dog, nice coon too!

Maybe check your dogs ears. I have a redbone with an ear infection and she won't tree anymore. She was a good tree dog before the infection just need to get it cleared up.

Put him in a kennel with a treeing walker for three days. Thats all. It should do the trick.

The dog may never tree, some dont, But if it runs a track well, it may still be usefull for some other type of hunting, Deer/Hog ect.

Jeff Eaves sugestion has worked for me several times in the past, please try it. If the dog has tree in him and he has not been ruined this usually works great.
Try this to see if the dog has any tree in him. Tie him and shake a dead coon in his face and get him all worked up. Then pull the coon up in a tree by a rope and let the dog go. You can let the coon down enough to tease him and pull it back. If the dog the dog will not look up as the coon goes up then try the dog on other game.
I've seen a few that will not look up, pulling the coon up they take their eyes off of it about 3 or 4 feet off the ground and start looking for it on the ground. These have NO treeing instint.
