Pup Behavior Question

I have a very nice 14 month old B&T male that I am having a little trouble with. Every time I turn him out with my other two dogs, all he want to do is play, and play fight. I can't even take him to the woods to start because he distracts the other dogs. I am also afraid he will try to play fight with another dog and end up in a fight. He goes nuts on a cage coon, and I am excited about getting him in the woods, just nervous about his behavior. I have tried shocking him, but that just makes him want to actually attack the other dog. Anyone have a suggestion on how to correct this?

If you keep him seperate from the other two dogs,put him in the same pen with one of them and see if this helps.If he is put in with one or both,he''ll get it out of his system sooner or later.

Be patient.... he is still young.... Try just taking him and one older broke dog, one that is not easily distracted. We have a male dog that is great with pups. He is a straight accurate dog and sweet as can be. When we start off pups one pup and him are the only two in the woods

Also what Kennyog said.... let him socialize with the other dog that he will be hunting with a bunch. I would not recommend keeping him in the lot 24/7 with another dog...due to the fact of territory, but maybe an hour or two (under supervision) for play time.

We tie a couple of our older dogs out on lines and let our pups go up an play with them.... this helps the maturing process and socialization process along. Plus the pup is more apt to go with the other dogs.

Just some ideas that have helped us out over the years.

Amos has been socialized since I got him. He was in the same pen as 2 other dogs from 11 wks to 9 months. I seperated them into single pens when I built my new kennel. I turn all 3 dogs loose in my fenced in yard for an hour or so twice a week when I am cleaning the kennel. My English stopped acting like this at 6 months. Is there a differance in maturing ages between the two breeds? This is my first time working with coonhound pups, always bought started dogs before.

It's like head on beer...you either wait patiently for it to come down, or just blow it off and start drinking!

I'd excercise that dog...can you road it somewhere? If you have access to an ATV, you can make a boom out of a long pipe and mount it on the front rack so it sticks way out the side. Put a short 12" chain on it and clip your dog on it. 10 to 15 miles per hour is a nice stroll...start short distance and then bring it up. Ride around the edge of a big field somewhere...your dogs will quickly learn to handle 3 or 4 miles...great conditioning, and really blows the "play" off a young dog in a hurry. If you make long enough booms for front and back, and use couplers you can road 8 dogs easily...and they'll learn to handle during it too.
