can your get a silent tracker to bark?

I'm working with this 11 mo mutt and have been for two months or so. She follows a trail great but she does not make one bit of noise when she tracks or trees. Can you train a dog out of this? She isn't incapable of barking because she barks like mad if something is in the yard that shouldn't be there. She's the only coon dog we have so she isn't much good if she won't bark.

11 months old is few months early to give up. Just curious, how can you tell she follows a trail great if she never barks? Keep her in the woods a couple more months and then reevaluate her.

If she isn't barking on a drag that isn't at all unusual..............I don't think I've ever seen a dog open on a drag track. They will usually tree though.

What does she do with a caged coon?

months old if the dog has had the chance and will not run and tree shoot it they all dont make it.

bad advice i have a pup 15 monhs od bring anythink you hav o hun against him a 11 months old all he did was play with he other dogs at 12 months old wen huning n hs own foud a live trapped coon and wen crazy trying to get i out of the trap i tied him back released the coon let him loose 10 minutes later and he tracked it and treed it.hunted him twice with another hound then singled him out and he went on his own and never backed up.
what i would do with this 11 month old pup is trap a coon live and le him see it and smell it and fire him up usualy the coon growling will fire them up let him bark at it for a short while release it and let him track it i would bet he will bark tracking it. just don't over do the trapped coon thing once or twice should turn his switches on

Well maybe geneticly this hound will never bark on track. Depends on alot of factors. Are the parents still mouthed or maybe just 1. If 1 or both are still mouthed good chance the pup will be too. If it's genetic my experiance is they will never bark or very little.

On the other hand if it hasn't been exposed to real live wooded coon several times it still may need just that! Hunted hard where coon are.

Lots of opinions out there and Im sure you are going to hear them.

SAVE THE COON, HUNT WITH A HOUND!

All I've done is lay a trail with a drag and I do it in the yard so I can see her but she does jump up on the tree (thats how I figure she is following a sent). I have not had her on a caged coon but I showed her a dead one and she was all over it but she didn't bark a lot. I don't know anyone who coon hunts in my area so I don't have another dog to run her with. Someone down the road form me has dogs but I think they hunt bear.

caged coon. let her c it smell it. growl bark. cut it loose ina feild in front of her. dont let her go till she startes barking, frist time i ever heard my male bark on trail, took a couple times of this then praise him. when he's on the tree.
