started coon hunting in 1980 and have never been checked have been checked while bird and deer hunting many times.

Posted by jackbob42 on 10-04-2008 02:57 AM:

Yup.
Was checked one time. Me and a friend had his 7 year old daughter and my 6 year old grandson out during training season. Once they saw the kids , no real questions were asked. Just BS'ed for a while.

Been checked once, had one dog and my son. Was just out running her and a nosey old lady up the road called the agent and said someone was poaching deer. He checked my license and then we talked for awhile.

Yep..........but seem to get checked more by the Sheriff's Deputies..........my guess would be some of the places I hunt have been disposing grounds for dead bodies. They ask what I doing.

I went rabbit hunting today and was surprised as Game Warden pulled up when I was loading hounds up and didn't even stop me or ask to see my hunting license and management license.

I have only been checked once after some new folks to the area called and told them we were spot lighting deer. Funny part is there's not a field to spot light on the whole road and the road is a dead end.

Was checked one time and he scared the crap out of us. We had two trucks and were a mile off the road after a heavy rain. Slick red mud. He walked in without a light, tripped over a skunk, and his shoes looked like they weighed twenty pounds each. He was shaking and after he checked everyones licenses he told us he hadn't been by himself in the field long. He was nervous. We gave him a ride out in the truck and when we got to the road there were three county mounties setting in their cars. He told us none of them even offered to walk in with him. We were far enough off the road we could have killed him and taken the other road out and never been seen by anyone. I have the utmost respect for anyone who puts their life on the line for the laws that criminals have caused to be written. A game warden knows that who he or she is going to check more than likely has a weapon of some kind and they hardly ever have back up with them.

Thats a whole lot different than the situation with our game wardens around here!!! They mean business. There old, mean, onery, sneaky, and both woods smart and street smart too. These around here in North Georgia can see like a eagle, smell like a bear, and hear like a deer. If that had been one of ours checking you out, before you ever even had a clue anyone was around at all he would have allready been watching you several minutes with his nitevision scope and knew exactly who you all were, where you lived, what you was hunting, and what your next step was gonna be!!!!!!!!!! Don't even once think im kidding.

I have been checked several times. About 8 nor 9 years ago My wife and I were hunting a wildlife management area. This area has the river running down one side and a creek on the other. Well the dog struck and crossed the creek, the only way to cross without swimming was to walk back to the road and come up the other side. As we got close to the truck I noticed there was another one parked behind it. Before I knew it two game wardens come out from each side of the field guns drawn screaming "Arkansas Game and Fish put down your weapons and put your hands in the air,Arkansas Game and Fish put down your weapons and put your hands in the air" ..lol I felt like TK and Mike. Turns out they had been watching us through night vision glasses. They had been called out because someone had been poachin deer in the area.

I got checked on a night hunt once. Been checked deer hunting. Had deputies called on us on a night hunt. Even had the High Sheriff come screeching down on me with two Hiway Patrol one night, I just stood at the back of the truck and laughed at them (I was not who they were looking for and they laughed with me)!

Once! and it cost me 160 bucks too. I was hunting an older female last year and my buddy [was just getting into hunting (out of it now)] brought his new ALL GRAND 6 month old pup along (well both of ours pup, he just had to have a partner cause he couldn't afford it on his own) My female got deep in there and had crossed back accross the road. Well we end up driving closer we get there and it sounds as if that pup is blowing the top out of the tree. He grabsthe gun as we left the truck we get up there and he isn't even treeing just barking like a retard.(gotta know this dog) Never shot anything, we get back to the truck and there sits the GW about 100 yards past my truck. He gives up both tickets. I lost a bunch of money on that darn dog.

I'd say you are correct as we are not to carry a gun in the woods out of season even if you don't shoot anything. The odd thing is only one of them was carrying the gun so why did they both get ticketed?

Because one gun means that both of you were hunting out of season.

I presume that is the reason we both got a ticket cause we had 2 dogs. I would say if only one dog and he had both dog and gun then I would of been ok but thats not how it happened. Plus our GW seems to like tickets. Called in for spot lighting deer though, guess cause it was like a week before season actually opened for coon and less than that for deer. 160 was ticket and court cost.
