-- I DID it (http://forums.ukcdogs.com/showthread.php?threadid=2300)
I DID it
I accomplished my first tiny goal in my new realm of entering nite hunts instead of sticking to the shows. PLEASE don't laugh at me, I was totally green at this a month ago and since then have entered three hunts. First hunt I just wore regular rubber knee boots and after struggling through half a mile or so of swamp with my boots being pulled off at every step, I withdrew because of "equipment failure". Second hunt, equipped with my new hip waders I managed 45 minutes of the hunt until partly due to my handling inexperience my dog minused out. This saturday night, third hunt - I MADE IT THROUGH A WHOLE HUNT AND KEPT UP. Again, please don't laugh, it's a small goal, but i'm a bit overweight and out of shape with asthma and a hardware store in one knee, so just to walk the two hours and keep up was a major accomplishment. I bet I was the happiest nite hunt entrant that ever came in with minus points ;0).
My advice to any youngsters, women, etc. who want to nite hunt, JUST GET OUT THERE AND DO IT. I've drawn out with wonderful gentleman coonhunters every time who helped me out learning the rules. Yes I had studied the rules carefully and had them memorized, but they were very confusing until i actually got out there and saw them applied in a real situation. I just got out there with the thinking that I was NOT in this to win anything, I was just along to do my best and learn as I go.
Switching dogs next week. Next goal - to come in with PLUS points!

WAY TO GO
I, too am about to enter the hunting arena. And I am about in the same shape you are. Since my husband can't competition any more, and I would like at least one dual champion before I die, I guess it's up to me. And I will be happy to just finish the 2 hours.
Keep me posted on how you do, we can encourage each other.
GOOD JOB
Way to go Lynn!!!
It is good to see a person who frequents the bench shows get out there and try their hand at the hunting aspect of our sport. I applaud you for doing so.
The plus points will come. So will the cast wins. But you have already experienced victory, haven't you? Again, congratulations on your entry into the night.
Way to go. I don't even want to tell ya how many years I went to the hunts with out winning a cast. My third or fourth hunt I came in with 25 plus points, non-cast winner and won queen of the hunt.(english sectional) Man was I excited, and hooked. It takes time but if you stick with it the dogs get better and so does your handling. Again, good job!
You go girl!
I'm so proud of you, I just just kiss ya! lol, sorry, get very emotional when I see another woman join the ranks. I hunt, also bench & field trial, but Lynn, sorry to say, after 3 yrs., hehe, I still have yet to come back with plus points.
It will come, I'm sure. All the men I have been out with have been just totally awesome gentlemen! The only time I ever had a problem, was with a 14 yr old boy who thought he could make me withdraw, simply by being as mean as possible to me. Good thing I have a son the same age & understood all that. I honestly feel a lesser woman would have folded, not me tho, I'm there to stay for the whole hunt. Only ever minused out 1 time & that also was due to handler error. Keep up the awesome job & keep me posted!!!

You go girl!!!!!
I, like English Babe, am so happy to see other women joining the ranks. I have been hunting competition for almost 3 years. I absolutely love it. I can honestly say I have only had one bad cast. The judge thought he could give me whatever score he wanted to. When I corrected him, he just about went nuts. Oh well, I guess he didnt want the woman, who was by the way the only one trying to find his coon, to finish the cast. Too bad for him. I called him on it and told him if he thought I was doing somethign wrong he needed to take me back to the master of hounds. He backed up real fast after that one. I did not win the cast, but then neither did he. ;-)
Remember when you set those little goals, everytime you reach one, you are that much closer to the big goal. Some day you will see your picture in Coonhound Bloodlines. Nothing gets done in big steps, just lots of little ones.
I wish you the very best of luck and the most fun you can have. Need any advice from another female hunter let me or EB know. Or try to meet Vicki Lamb.
Again the best of luck to you, hope to draw you one night.
